Condensation is most probably the cause.

    Ventilation is the answer.
I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.
  • Ok I've given in and hired a dehumidifier for a week! Thanks for all your tips everyone
  • I used a product called HG (got it in Homebase). It cost about a fiver for a bottle and cleared all the black stuff off the walls, cupboards, windows etc, and kept it away for a very long time when used in advance of the dehumidifying etc.

Sprayed it on, wiped it off. Sparkling stuff, but don't use bleach wipes, you create chlorine gas and nearly kill yourself. I'm not proud of being that stupid, but learn from my mistake :)
Some days, it's just not worth chewing through the leather straps....

To remove the mould top tip: bog standard white vinegar on a rag, you'll have it off in no time, you can also use baking soda with the vinegar for an even more effective solution.

Bleach is really rubbish to use on mould it won't work fully if it is a porous material (like wood) or fabric, and it's toxic and corrosive so will probably just end up damaging what you use it on, or it will grow back within a couple of weeks.
