Contact Morphy Richards via their website as this certainly shouldn't happen and I'm sure they will be pleased to help you.

Maybe they don't like the taste becasue the mould has tainted it? When it is replaced try something spicy and creamy like Tagine or curry or bolognaise. Have only done a whole chicken twice , once today and tbh I don't like whole chicken done in the SC. I am not funny about bones, but I think it goes back to when I wa s a kid and Dad would put chicken quarters in SC and cook for ages and then I ate that gristle bit on teh end of the thigh bone and it made me gag.

I tend not to cook my food too long in the SC if it is chicken, maybe 3 or 4 hours for thighs.

Definately either take it back or complain - mine is a morphy richards - black actually not brown must have been having a colour blind moment! Is it the large silver one? That is the one I have - the knob disintegrated, but DH liberated one off a frying pan lid and it fitted perfectly, although now the temp selector has come away - just as well we have an RCD! One review says this cooker is not slow - no it isn't I have burnt things too. Not impressed with the quality.

Also in the states you can get dividers , oh how I would love one, jacket potatoes one side, chilli the other.

By any chance do you load up the slow cooker put it in the fridge overnight and put it on in the morning?

    hi ya
I know its hassle, but if its a month old and "crazy paved" inside (cracked) it isnt right, mine is years old, and at one point was "stored" to catch a roof leak for months!
A SC can and should be a great help, and yes I have never done a roast in it, but for chucking all sorts into and leaving to work its magic its ace. Exchange it for a new one and keep experimenting :)

Aha - that is why it has crazed! You need to put it in the fridge in a different bowl and then transfer it to slow cooker. It is the temperature change that has caused it. Similarly if you fill with cold water after using, you risk cracking it.

wow! I would have never thought that I can spoil it like this!
I left mine overnight now with water and vinegar solution, I will see what will it do . If no results, I will try to exchange it in Argos (will tell them I have no idea why it happened) and will treat my new one very carefully .
    Thx a lot!
  • Hi Amalis,

I haven't done anything about mine yet as I thought it had happened because it hadn't been washed throughly enough.
After reading the other posts though I have
    1. never prepared food in it then stored it in the fridge overnight or for any amount of time .
    and
    2. filled it with cold water after use.
I last used it about a week ago and it is now on the side in the kitchen with the lid on.I did check it last night and there is no sign of any "growth" in there yet but will see what happens over the next few days!

Oh well notsorich there goes mine and other googled theories!! Just exchange them, once you get mould spores they are very hard to get rid of. Know this to my cost on bathroom sealant!

Hello to all! I decided to dig up this topic to update on my progress. I am happy to tell that I have my problem sorted (so far it seem so). I put pure vinegar in my SC.. and forgot about it for a few days. When I remembered, I did not find a trace of mould in it, but forextra security washed it with lemon, dried and kept with lid off. One week later- no mould at sight!

That's a matter of opinion :) I far prefer food cooked in a casserole dish, and got rid of my SC as non of my family can stand the taste :)

I don't understand how there is a different taste to food cooked in a caserole dish to a slow cooker? I can understand chicken being a bit different if you don't brown/crisp it at the end of cooking although I don't bother but to do a stew in the sc is just the same as cooking it in a caserole dish?

Glad to hear you got it sorted, now you need to check out the SC threads for recipes :j
