little rant about flatmates...

Sorry if missed anything, have looked through most of the thread, can you not work out an amount for bills for everyone per week or month then ask them to pay you by DD? Could you set up a different bank account in your name just for the bills, or ask the others to take responsibility for a different bill each so that you are not left with it all? Its unfair as it stands.
I remember my uni days being like this, i was the one who was in charge of bills etc but luckily my flatmates paid up on time with no problems but i know how stressful it is.
At least you are counting down but its a long time to get through if its going to be like this.0 -
Can you outline what bills you are having to pay out, it may just help sort this out a bit.0

thanks again, guys...managed to get TV costs more or less off both flatmates, so just internet bills now...
Basically, as it stands I pay for phone and internet (TV costs was a one-off thing, and TV license is being organised/paid by other flatmates as I have no intention of watching live TV).
Once I have time to breathe (stressful, busy week) I will ring O2 and BT, as I'm sure our yearly contract is almost up, but have had no contact from either company regarding this matter (and really don't trust BT), so may see if the bills can be transferred to another flatmate's name, so they can pay initially and I can pay them back for a change.
It's just 2 of my other 4 flatmates I have issues with...one is I suspect somewhere on the autistic spectrum which can make her a little difficult to deal with at times and the other just assumes that because she's more organised than me this somehow gives her the right to be incredibly rude and condescending. Also if someone tries to talk (accidentally) at the same time as her she has a really annoying habit of continuing to speak louder and louder until the other person is drowned out/shuts up.
As for the schedule of chores, we had that last year - bossy flatmate came to me about it after everyone else had already agreed, so when I voiced concerns I was shouted down...needless to say the rota didn't work too well and has been scrapped this year. Sitting down and talking wont work well, as bossy one will try and take control of situation and argue (been there, done that).
I just have to sit it out until next June...have had the odd !!!!! to one of my other flatmates who is sympathetic to my situation as she has been on the receiving end of the wrath of the bossy flatmate.0 -
Glad to hear you are getting somewhere!WolfSong2000 wrote: »....It's just 2 of my other 4 flatmates I have issues with...one is I suspect somewhere on the autistic spectrum which can make her a little difficult to deal with at times and the other just assumes that because she's more organised than me this somehow gives her the right to be incredibly rude and condescending.
That doesn't give her the right to not pay her dues.....WolfSong2000 wrote: »....Also if someone tries to talk (accidentally) at the same time as her she has a really annoying habit of continuing to speak louder and louder until the other person is drowned out/shuts up......
I would either stick my fingers in my ears and go "lalala" until she stops or just walk away from her - a bit like the way children are treated if they try the same trick!2021 Decluttering Awards: ⭐⭐🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇 2022 Decluttering Awards: 🥇

Sounds hard. At least get the internet bills in someone elses name, as that will help you out, and after all you shouldnt have to baby sit everyone else, they need to take some responsibility.
If I was you I would work out a fair way of splitting bills for starters, and then I think I would keep as much stuff in my room as possible, get a lock for it, and just wash up and clean your things as you go, and see if you can spend more time away from the house if possible, as that gives you a break from everything and studying in the library and just generally getting away from it all helped me a lot when I was a student. At least you have another girl in the house you can speak to which does help, you are not totally by yourself with all this.0 -
just a thought but, even if your internet contract isn't up for renewal, if you tell your internet provider that someone else has stolen the disc/password and you are no longer able to control the account, surely they should be able to reset the security for you. And why get the name on the a/c changed? why not just cancel it and let the 'organised' flatmate sort it out - I'm sure she'll be thrilled to take on the job...

Wish I had so little to worry about. The time spent typing these online essays could have been spent cleaning up your own mess, or talking to the people you live with. Whoever told you life is fair was lying.Been away for a while.0

Problem is, in these situations, students get together and think it's gonna be easy and straightforward. It ain't. You've all got different ideas of how to behave and how to keep things. You've got no mums about to remind you how to behave. If you don't like stuff, say so nicely. If you lend out stuff and don't get it back - don't do again. Allowing people to dump on you gives the impression you are a walkover and gets you no respect - but neither does kicking off.
Bloody hard though and there's no way I'd want to go back into a shared house again!!
Best of luck. Keep calm!0
