Do your parents spoil you as an adult
Comments

My parents are quite generous and will buy thoughtful gifts for christmas - maybe they don't cost too much but it is always something I/we need and you can see the thought that has gone into it.
They are extra generous when it comes to our son as he is the first grandchild and they dote on him. Again it isn't always about the cost of things but they will think of things he may need.
I'm quite lucky that my parents are there for me emotionally as well as financially when needed. I would hope I could do the same for my son when he's older.0 -
I think it's far better this way around - had I been spoilt as a child and not taught that if you want something you work for it, then save up I wouldn't be grateful for what they do and give and would probably expect it. I spent a long time feeling like I should never accept any financial help from my folks, but realised they do it cos they want and because they can and if I had kids I am sure I would be the same.
There are even little things like I was only ever allowed one telephone call per evening and they would make me very aware if they thought the bill was a bit too high that quarter. I find now that the thought of what some people spend on mobile phones just fills me with horror at such a waste! At the time I thought they were just being awkward, but all these things have been hugely beneficial to me as an adult with an income of quite a lot lower than the so called national average.0 -
My mum doesn't, other way around, I'm the one buying her and treating her to things.
OH's mum & dad spoil us, take us out for meals, or as we don't have a car we go on trips with DD and they tend to pay for entry into places etc, they insist. Or if me and OH's mum goes to the supermarket, she'll say things like "Oh get this big bit of meat and you can make XYZ and make YXZ with the leftovers, and if I uhmmm and ahhh about it (usually the price that puts me off) she just says "You are doing it" and buys it for us.
I cook them a great Xmas dinner though0 -
I think there is a difference between being spoilt and being a brat. I know thats not the question but there is a reaction that being spoilt means you can be a horror. Getting anything you want when you want it constitutes to being a brat but if you treat your kids to presents at Christmas and Birthday's then whats wrong with that? You work hard enough and thats why you have kids.
So I'll say yes. :beer:0 -

I've never ever been a 'brat' about it... My parents are amazing, they really are. But I've never 'expected' any of it. Theyre lucky that theyre in a position where they can afford to be generous (not just to me, but my brother, sister and son too).... As my mother always says 'who wants to be the richest person in the graveyard?'... Theyd rather see us enjoying our inheritance now.You lied to me Edward. There IS a Swansea. And other places.....
