I have 4 defaults and 1 Arrangement to pay on my credit search, 3 of the defaults are over 3 years old now and 1 will be 3 years old on 30th of this month, all were gotten in 2006. I have settled the Arrangement to pay account this month.
Now I have a Natwest Advantage Gold account opened on 1st June, they gave me a Solo card (Now Visa Debit) a cheque book and a £50 OD limit. I phoned them up this week to ask about an upgrade to a Servicecard as I can't use the Visa Debit everywhere (No pay@pump etc), they said that I needed to run the account well for atleast 3 months and have 3 months salary credits, now I have done that and they confirmed that I had done it so they are going to send me the form to apply for the servicecard.
Now if Natwest only search back 3 years then none of the defaults will show if I leave it until after 30th October, only the Arrangement to pay will show and that will be settled. Do you think it will work as the woman in the branch said that although running your account well is one part of it she could not tell me what the others are, although I suspect I will still be credit searched.
What do you think my chances are and is it going to be worth doing ?, I also have all my Savings and Investments with Natwest but I am not sure if that would count.
Thanks.
RBS and Natwest weight your "Account Behaviour Score" very heavily when applying for credit / upgrades with them.
I would suggest that it is more important to ensure that you run your account flawlessly for three months, plenty of credits, not using the overdraft, no instances of being charged or going over the OD limit even for a day, and after three to six months your account behaviour score will be an asset to you and should get you a Service card without a credit check.
Natwest search both Equifax and Experian when you apply for further credit so it's worth ensuring the data with both reference agencies is upto snuff. It's not just a matter of how old your defaults are, but also how many there are, whether you've missed any payments in the last three years, etc etc.
But I think for now you should be alright getting a service card without a credit check as long as the account has been kept in flawless order for several months

I agree.
To build up my behaviour score with RBS I followed some advice on here to always have credit in my account, have direct debits set-up and use my card for spending where ever possible, rather than withdrawl cash.
Then having been rejected for an overdraft in February, I was accepted for one in September and accepted for a second account with an overdraft aswell. What's more I was also accepted for their Classic Credit Card this month - all based mainly (I presumed anyway) on my behaviour score, as I do not have the best credit history (see sig).0 -
I've got a My World Mastercard by Sygma, I got that with no problems, I got it because of the ticket booking offers, not because it was easy to get. But saying that I do sometimes get knocked back for CCs so my rating is obviously not spotless, I got a £1000 lmit which is much lower than my £6100 Virgin limit but perfectly adequate for booking tickets.0
