A&L would search Experian I'm afraid
Your account behaviour score would count toward the application, but they would still consult Experian.
As I say, Barclaycard, Sygma, and Tesco are the only companies that search Equifax exclisively, and until your default is three years old you won't get a low APR card.
IMO the Barclaycard Initial is best suited to your score at the moment
You can try for the Barclaycard Gold if you want, but I don't think it would be a goer.
EDIT: Yes having no credit cards could be lowing your score. If you don't have any existing cards then the Barclaycard Initial is really the only choice, and is ideally suited to you. Once you've had it open a while and the default is over three years old, you can apply for a Tesco card, who a. only search equifax and b. only look back three years.
I doubt Tesco would accept you until a. you have an existing credit card and b. your most recent missed payment / default is three years old

hello again iztools
what if i went for a personal loan instead of a credit card, who would be the best to try?0 -
OK do you actually need a loan?
With your credit score as it is at the moment, you need to be "rebuilding".
What you need is an active, rolling credit account, like a barclaycard initial, building up the little green zeroes increasing your score as the months go on.
Once you have a better score you'd be in a better position to apply for products you need with greater confidence.
Barclyacard Masterloan search Equifax only as well, but there's no one in the country any more (sub-prime loans just don't exist anymore) who will give you a loan worth having until you've rebuilt a little bit. It's just going to be decline after decline with the possible exception of black horse who would be looking at charging 40% APR or more, with your default being so recent.
Grab yourself a subprime credit card and wait until your defaults are all settled and over three years old and you'll be in a better position to look at high street credit again

Tesco CC search Experian who told you they only search Equifax? you need to get your facts straight before you give advice;)0 -
Apologies for the confusion, which came into play through my being told that Tesco only search Equifax, but that was in reference to their loans, unbeknown to me. Maybe I'm not the only one giving bad advice if I've been mis-advised, eh?
Their credit cards are underwritten by RBS and therefore are subject to an Equifax and Experian search. I know that now through my own research.
Apologies for any confusion, there's no need to be so rude through a simple misunderstanding.
My point still stands that Tesco should be OK with an application wherein the applicant has had 36 months of flawless history, depending on circumstances, as per Never-In-Doubt's advice.
Again, my point still stands, that the chappy here would be best taking out a sub-prime card, namely the Barclaycard Initial to build some history ready for a prime card when he's had 36 months of clean running.

I have 4 defaults and 1 Arrangement to pay on my credit search, 3 of the defaults are over 3 years old now and 1 will be 3 years old on 30th of this month, all were gotten in 2006. I have settled the Arrangement to pay account this month.
Now I have a Natwest Advantage Gold account opened on 1st June, they gave me a Solo card (Now Visa Debit) a cheque book and a £50 OD limit. I phoned them up this week to ask about an upgrade to a Servicecard as I can't use the Visa Debit everywhere (No pay@pump etc), they said that I needed to run the account well for atleast 3 months and have 3 months salary credits, now I have done that and they confirmed that I had done it so they are going to send me the form to apply for the servicecard.
Now if Natwest only search back 3 years then none of the defaults will show if I leave it until after 30th October, only the Arrangement to pay will show and that will be settled. Do you think it will work as the woman in the branch said that although running your account well is one part of it she could not tell me what the others are, although I suspect I will still be credit searched.
What do you think my chances are and is it going to be worth doing ?, I also have all my Savings and Investments with Natwest but I am not sure if that would count.
Thanks.0 -
I have a basic bank account, strictly no overdraft of any kind and no mobile phone contract, I am pay as you go. Because of the bankruptcy I have no credit of any kind anywhere, most places would refuse me. As for APR I don't remember exactly what it is but I was given the standard rate at the time of applying. It hasn't gone up over the last 10 months and they have raised my limit twice since then.0
