For many of us, a single default on credit file is practically just as bad as bankrupty!! I used to have one from 02, and after such a long battle, 02 finally relented and gave in. It's scandalous how telcommunications companies can get away with it putting defaults willy nilly ruining people's lives. Banks with bank accounts do this well, it is just mindless vandalism!

I applied for a Flybe card and was given a £2000 limit, although I have no other credit cards. I do have on my record a discharged bankruptcy (3 years old) and an outstanding CCJ (4 years old) so my very poor history wasn't a problem for them.

Interesting! I note the discharged bankrupty and oustanding CCJ are more than 3 years old at time of application. So in my theory that it is possible to get a mainstream card as long all the adverse data are more than 3 years old. Im surprised they did not CIFAS you like some peeps here for nothing!

Bloody hell then so even I might be in with a chance of getting a Sygma card if I carry on with my Vanquis and Aqua cards for the next couple of years!

If846, I would assume you have held at least a bank account or two and Mobile Phone contract since your discharge from bankruptcy? There must have been some very good recent history for you to have been approved I think!

  • 3 months now without a reply from them. I have a niggling feeling that I might have been rejected and put on a "Don't bother informing him" list ;)

I got approved for a Flybe card about 18 months ago with an interest rate of 24.9%. I am just about to pay off my balance of £1,200 with a loan from my parents as they kept putting my interest rate up which is now at 31.9% despite giving me a credit limit rise from £2,000 to £2,400.

Have not found them very helpful and have always made payments on time, which were above min payment. Just my point of view so be warned! xx

Good point that - If846; what APR did they give you?

I wonder if they do rate-for-risk right upto Vanquis territory 60% APR? ;)

Sygma Bank and Barclaycard search Equifax only. They are the only two credit card companies that search Equifax and no-one else.

Are there any defaults atall showing on Equifax? When was your last missed payment on Equifax? How many credit searches have you had in the last six months on Equifax?
