My DD is 7 this year so she's much more wanting to do things now so I'm planning planning planning! I'm such a Christmas nut cos we didn't have it when I was a child... (unfortunately not due to religious reasons :() So I want to make memories that last forever for my gorgeous girl!

Sorry you don't have Happy memories of Crimbo, I don't really either but in our case it wasn't for the want of trying...

We were under so much pressure when I was a kid to enjoy Christmas because of the sascrifice and effort put into it, something would inevitably go wrong then it would end up unravelling pretty swiftly into a big ding dong of an argument because tempers were so frayed:o.

Keep the easy baking in the list for Christmas Eve, plan time to relax during the next day. We have had years when we all had a nap after Christmas dinner after being up really early in the morning. It's a special day, but too easily ruined by a massive build up followed by the realisation that it's just another winter's day.;)

Last year was my first year at making things and i was surprised at how easy some things could be. As Midnight said, start with pots of gold, they can't go wrong :D And i'd definitely recommend a sock monkey, your daughter will love these! I'm planning to do a cookie in a jar but have no clue so i'm off to find help, everyone here is lovely so whenever you're stuck, just ask :D

Aww, thank you Jetty :) Can't make my mind up about the sock monkeys, they look lovely but I'm not sure I could do one :o

Thank you ailuro :) I didn't have the best mum (is that a violin I can hear?! :p) so I think I probably try and overcompensate for that with my own daughter - which did turn me into a nightmare last year actually... I'd planned and made lists and planned some more and just like you said, something went wrong and I had a [STRIKE]big small [/STRIKE]medium sized hissy fit. Was actually quite ashamed of myself so I took myself off upstairs to calm down, when I came back downstairs the gingerbread house had been made and was being decorated - made me feel even worse! I'm determined that won't happen again this year though, which is why I'm wanting to get as organised as possible so the few days we have together as a family (husband has asked for the week off work, fingers crossed!!) is as wonderful as possible :D

Thank you again, I'm off to raid your wonderful ideas some more :D

Hi pixie :) I did this last year for the three of us, DD was 6 and we had the same as you've got, plus a blanket each for snuggling into (Winnie the Pooh for DD and Spongebob for DH :rotfl:) , some free printouts off the net for DD - a "you're officially on the nice list" certificate from Santa and a letter from Santa - I laminated both and they're still up on her bedroom wall! - some colouring in pages and a few scraps of paper for her to write Santa a little note to leave out for him. Think that was everything... Oh and a small basket of our favourite sweets each for us to pig out on while watching Christmas tv - surprisingly these baskets lasted well into the New Year!

    Hope that's some help :)

Edited to add, we've started buying a new Christmassy ornament each year for DD to put on tree on Christmas Eve, last year's was a bauble with DD's name on which she found in the hamper and was thrilled with!

  • Hi I just joined the forum today and am an utter Christmas nut ( that's how I found it :D) I thought I just about had everything covered for the festivities when I discovered this thread. I know people who just buy new pj's for Christmas Eve but a whole hamper!! What a fab idea :T
There are 6 of us here, two adults, two grown up boys & twins aged 4. I am sorry that I didn't know about the hampers earlier as my boys didn't get them so I think I will do a very large combined hamper for all of us so we all get something? Does anyone else do this? Do people wrap the things ( is that a silly question?)
I do stockings for everyone and at 21 & 17 they take some creative filling now the chaps have outgrown top trumps & bubblegum packs :p

Am going to put my thinking cap on - I think over the last 20 years we've seen all the movies although you'd be hard to beat the Santa Claus - even at 42 it's the most magical film you ever saw. I love watching their faces when they see it for the first time - utterly priceless.

BTW years ago, I copied the card from the Santa Clause movie, I put it on a disc ( yup that long ago!) and took it to the printers & they made me 20 of them. I left one under the tree amongst the prezzies :D Even though my eldest was 13 at the time and thought he had it all worked it it stumped him and made the magic last that little bit longer...the cards were identical. I caught them rewinding the video watching it over & over to check it :rotfl:
Dont you just love making magic!!!!
  • Am going to make these for the first time this year. Will do them for my four children and I want to include:

    PJs
    Christmas DVD/book
    Snowman Poo
    Reindeer Food
    Biscuits
    Knitted Christmas toy
    Christmas pictures (to colour)

Can't wait to start all the preparations! :rotfl:
  • Did my first one last year thanks to this thread and it went down well. Mine are 14, 13 and 2 1/2. I did fleeces for the older ones, pyjamas for all, nibbles etc. Will try to be more creative this year by sneaking back every so often to steal ideas!

Have picked up the cheapie Logo board game from the grabbit thread which is for ages 12 to adult so my older ones can have that in their hamper. Will have to think on the rest although the little one should be quite easy.
