Luncheon vouchers - has anyone noticed....

I had a really surreal one at a Somerfield this year. I was buying £2.50 worth exactly of goods and handed over £2.50 in LVs. The staff member looked at them, then the till, then me, then the till again and said "but there is more". I assumed I'd given her the wrong vouchers so tried to give her another. She said "No, you need to give me more, it is asking for another penny." I only had a £20 note which she wouldn't accept, and I'd used upwards of £30 luncheon vouchers in the same shop before and was questioning why I suddenly needed to pay part cash as the queue behind me got crosser and crosser and I paniced. Eventually the woman behind me shoved a penny in my face with a big sigh and eye roll and I handed it over to the sneering staff member...
...who then proceeded to give me my receipt with a penny change :mad:Make £5 a day in July - £105.33/£155
Total debt July '09: £7,500
Proud to be dealing with my debts but not proud that they are still the same a year on.0 -
I usually use mine at Iceland, where there are a mix of staff... some, who've met me before, now know about them. There are others who have no clue... One even tried to have a row with me, saying they do NOT accept them. My response (calmly) "in my experience, you do. I have used such vouchers here before without problem, could you check please?".
Thing is i generally use them when I have sod all cash so it is important we get to use them, and I know the branch in question does take them... Like most others here I get them for p1nec0neOn the up

I use them at Waitrose, Sainsbury's, Tesco and Costa without any problems, Waitrose only accepts 5 vouchers at a time though, that's the only restriction.
None of the cashiers have ever questioned them...maybe it's because I'm in London?£9500/£10000 baby fund saved so far0 -

I've used more than 5 LV's at a time in various Waitrose stores in London though, maybe different stores are different?0 -
I use mine in Boots, doesnt seem to be a limit on the number of vouchers - I wait until the 3 for 2 on gifts at xmas. I also use them at the self-scan machines in Tesco, it scans like any other coupon and you 'post' it into the little box. Sometimes I have to wait for the supervisor to come over, but I have never been refused them.
Even had a lucky day the other day where they got put through for £4 instead of £3, good times!
Would you have it if had been the other way ?

Used some in Morrisons yesteday for a garden parasol (for me) and a bottle of after shave balm (Father's Day gift). Nice lady was quite happy as I was the one who told her last time how to enter them into the till!0

Are Luncheon Vouchers produced by Accor? Sorry but its bit off subject but I get given dry cleaning vouchers made by Accor for my uniform and have always been surprised when places have been reluctant to take them. I would often get a disgusted look and some places even ask for double vouchers or they refuse to do the cleaning! I recently asked a manager at a dry cleaners what this was all about and apparently they get about a pound per voucher for a job that they'd normally charge about £10 for!
I can imagine the retailer who redeems Luncheon Vouchers also get a tiny fraction of the price they've sold the goods for and for smaller retailers its probably not worth their while.0
