I have just read through your thread Lossed, and wanted to stop by and congratulate you on your progress. You sound a very talented person, with your cooking, gardening and sewing, not 'lost' at all - I point this out because you seem to be a bit 'down' on yourself. These are valuable skills that should not be taken for granted these days. They are also absorbing hobbies that, if you really got into them, could easily take the place of shopping - go to the shops and just look, and then go home and make something just as nice (for presents as well, with Christmas coming up)!
My only piece of advice, for what it is worth, is to make paying your rent and council tax an absolute priority, put it aside before you spend or pay anything else.
Good luck x0 -
Well done on the progress you have made so far. Suggest you keep your user name as a reminder to stay on the ball until the day you become Debt free, then you can change it to "Found" or something like that! One life - your life - live it!0

Dawnw thanks for the support, I am now realising there is more to life than shopping and who's fault is I'm bored ? "mine" lots more worth wile things to do is this world that shop and spend. Making own gifts is a idea i like the sound of, so looking into that.

Hi lossed, just read through your thread and am so struck by the change in you from your first post. You sound so positive now.
You mentioned time is hanging heavily on your hands so you go out and spend. Had you thought about doing voluntary work in your spare time? It can be very absorbing and satisfying, and there's lots of choice about what to do. Most places will pay expenses as well so it shouldn't cost you much at all.0 -
Thankyou sleepless saver for reading through it all. I can hardly believe the change myself in 5 days. Just goes to show you what you can achieve with positive support. I cant thank enough the people that have supported me. I only hope I can do the same for others (once i know what I'm talking about) but i have said "hello" to quite a few people. even a "hello" and stick with it you will get there, is a big help when you think your on your own.
Well i did the dreaded cash converter trip  but having said that I now have £35 in my purse, wooooo hoooooo if i can do this week on £3.50, I'm expecting to have at least £20 of it left come pay day next thursday. Stocks are a bit low as I have raided the cupbaords and freezer this week. So need to buy a little bit. I am going to plan my meals for next weeek and try and get them in one trip, hoping to do a bit of mixing and matching. I have found I have filled up some time, reading recipie books and looking around this site. The volantery work is food for thought, as i need to get out more, but doing things that wont cost me very much or not at all. I work nights, so my family and friends are at work all day. I am looking into making some of my christmas presents too, so that will keep me busy. I usualy spend £20-£25 on each person for christmas, my plan is to cut it down to £10 and i am cutting some out al ltogether, there is 3 people that i never see, we just post christmas and birthday present back and forth. So i am going to give them a ring and explain. i am hoping that they will see it as a way out too. They then can save on presents and postage.
I was a nervous wreck in the shop, looking around all the time in case someone came in that i knew, I felt terribly guilty for some reason, i was hiding behind people and displays.

Good Morning Everyone. So far so good, usualy i would have thought, ok i'm fine till Thursday Ive got £35 now, and wasted some of it. Not yesterday, I spent £5 of it, Ive put £20 away and planning on keeping it till Thursday and £10 to last me through till then. I'm now going to go and root through my paint cupboard and see what emulsion paint I have. Usualy i would just go out and buy new without looking and then find out I half half a tin of it already. Also going to look around at make my own gift idea's

Wow - sounds like you're making fantastic progress already - you must be a natural. Loving the sound of all the making things/cooking/painting etc. Hopefully you will enjoy them and save yourself money at the same time - bargain.
I agree with QueenBeruthiel - (post #61) - it is all about shops making us buy things we don't need want or can afford and making us feel inadequate without the latest this that or the other.

Well done on being so positive, and braving cash converters.
Problem with Ebay is if the item isn't very expensive, you lose most of it in fees, and it takes too long.
Books.CD's and DVD's sell quite well on Amazon, but again its not a quick fix.
Cashback sites are good but take a while to get enough to pay out, some of the surveys pay out on small amounts. Lightspeed pays out as vouchers including Paypal and you can cash out at as little as £1.
Well done on the Christmas stuff. You can do it quite cheap if you plan it properly. The year I realised how skint I was, I managed to give my sister a present costing £5 but it looked so good. Called it an indulgence pack and it had a book, some fluffy socks, bath bubbles, bar of choc all in a wicker basket part of a set from Ikea.Debts at LBM - Mortgages £128497 - non mortgage £27497 Debt now £[STRIKE]114150[/STRIKE][STRIKE]109032[/STRIKE] 64300 (mortgage) Credit cards left 0
