Not seen this mentioned but was browsing on the Asda Gearge website & noticed they have a plus size range, not a lot of stuff, mainly top's but might be handy for basics http://direct.asda.com/george/women/plus-size/D1M10G1C3,default,sc.html#http://direct.asda.com/george/women/plus-size/D1M10G1C3,default,sc.html?viewAll&priceSliderRangeMin=4.0&priceSliderRangeMax=16.0
They've recently increased their size range, up to size 32 :)
I don't buy from them, but it's always good to have more choice

they only go up to size 22 though, which nowadays is a fairly mainstream size
PS I could only see 22L, while other sizes have a Regular length as well, really limited choice.

I know they only go to 22 but I would say a generous fitting and quality far in excess of most plus sized retailers. Handy if you are at the upper range of standard sizes. I'm a 22 and struggle to find clothing so I wouldn't say a fairly mainstream size.

I've never seen anything beyond a 22 in my shop, but it is a teeny asda, so not overly surprised. However I recently bought quite a few vests off the site. I went a 24 which gives a loose to snug fit (prefer that with vests, they're mostly for under things like low cut dresses, and see through tops). Prolly 26-28 is top size, so I found them generous for a 24 really. But this is not often the case with tops with asda. The only thing is they have really long straps. I will have to adjust them all as it's more like they are under the bra top (if you get what I mean!)

Tescos seems to have improved their plus range, last time I checked. The last few seasons have been dire, and frankly I got the feeling they were trying to drop it. There's a few nice pieces in it, but then their normal range have much more lovely bits in it, so I wish they'd just do larger sizes of it. They also seem to use quite tall models, and for some reason their maxi dresses are far too long.
This dress for example. http://www.clothingattesco.com/praslin/praslin-floral-and-butterfly-print-plus-size-maxi-dress/invt/cz413827 is great! BUT well overpriced (picked a similar up from Yours for half that price AND look at the length of it. The model is 5 foot 9 inches. I'd trip over that, ruin the bottom of it, or have to adjust it length wise and there goes the bottom effect.

I think it's quite common for retailers not to keep larger sizes in store, it seems that while the choice for online shopping for sizes 26+ is increasing all the time, the same is not happening in mainstream store on the high street, the trend seems to be the opposite I believe New Look removed plus sizes altogether. However there are a lot of new specialised shops popping up, as simply be and taking shapes are expanding.

It's a bit depressing to feel that mainstream retailers can't be bothered to cater for you in their stores and you are forced to shop online or go to one of the new specialised plus size stores, if you have one near you.

I'm sure you appreciate that when I see a post advertising great offers in a plus size thread it's quite disappointing to go there and see that I'm excluded, like many other plus size women. Perhaps it would be nice just to say that they only go up to size 22 so that anyone over that size doesn't have to click, see nice clothes at reduced prices that they can't have. :)

  • Had a couple of good buys recently from here www.everything5pounds.com they tend to only small quantities of things though. They tend to add plus size once a week unfortunately new stock goes live around 11am. They show their new arrivals on facebook the day before. When new stock is added it seems to take a couple of hours for items to be added to the sections as well as new arrivals

    this is what I got

    & similar to this http://www.everything5pounds.com/chiffon-daisy-print-blouse-p-35537.html

Quality was OK but not fab, previous top was nicer quality, but not disappoint for a fiver, postage starts at £3.95 and goes up according to weight. Some stuff under the plus tab only goes to a 22 but quite a lot goes to a 30.

Would say aimed a younger age group, for those of you that like quirky shoes, they have a very varied selection

Several years ago I bought an under dress dress. It was plain black, with a simple frill bottom, and vest typed straps on the top. It was designed for wearing under other things like other dresses. It's gotten a little big for me now, and I can't seem to find anything that is remotely similar. I don't want a slip, or petitcote, as this was cotton, and thus didn't make static. It came originally from Ellos, which was a Swedish (i think) collection going back, before la redoute took it over and killed it. I got some lovely dresses from them, but wouldn't give the style time now.

Has anyone seen anything like that? I would take a white, or black simple cotton dress with a reasonable skirt (ie not fitted) that is more of a swing dress, but not patterned, and definitely must be plain looking. Prolly 24/26

I find it incredibly good for wearing under shorter dresses, or even under longer tunics as the frill pokes out underneath, so I'd even take a plain cotton based standard knee/over knee dress. I found it on a google search in standard sizes in white, so it looked like this: (very old ebay auction, so not a current item)

I believe this is known as a petti dress. Taking Shape sell them, but as far as I know only in black, and I suspect polyester.
If you can sew (or know someone who does) I don't think it would be difficult to make one to your requirements.

Yeah! The body and petti dresses seem to be what I'm looking for, just mostly in polyester and dear prices on taking shape. Cotton is cool, but also a warm layer in winter. Can't seem to find anything like it now, but along my searches this morning black sleeveless skater dresses jersey/cotton are kinda like it, but no fancy bottom. however I'm pretty good at adding lace/edging to dress bottoms, so I'm thinking that's a way ahead now.
