I've posted a 20% discount code on the main voucher section of the forum. They say it works on everything, maybe discounted items too.
Happy Plus Size Shopping!
Great, thanks for that. Proper 'Plus sizes' too - goes all the way to 30!Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.0 -
I can find them in outdoor shops, but look horribly shapeless and unfashionable. Although waterproof, some I imagine wouldn't be breathable or nice material for everyday.
I was tempted by one on very http://www.very.co.uk/south-core-parka/1109639 but although its warm, its certainly not waterproof.
I am size 20 but don't want it tight, and 5.6" high so want a longish one to keep legs dry. Didn't really want to spend more than £70, but might if it was really good, as would be so useful.
On Mumsnet they have lots of (expensive) ideas, but mostly seem to be size 12/14. Most they suggest go to 18 max.
Just wondered if anyone has come across something great this year?
Thanks0 -
Any of these any good...

Lands End have a good sale at the mo. I bought 2 coats from then last year and the quality is great. You might find something in the sale. Good luck :0)0 -
Thanks bushbaby - I ordered a summer parka and it was really unflattering, trouble is you don't get free returns, otherwise I'd try several from them, as they look to be a bargain at the moment.
They first one seems to shed feathers everywhere - the second is a bit short, I see they do longer ones, a less bulky coat would be more flattering and that comes in at the waist, as I want to wear it to work, don't want to look too sacklike!!
Which styles did you get please?0 -
I got the full length staduim squall coat (in tall size XL) I don't think you'll need the tall fit I'm 5' 10" ant the proportions are right for me. It has a inner draw cord to cinch in the waits so not too bulky. It's seriously warm and not too heavy maybe go for the standard mid-thigh length one? Aslo got the Shimmer Down coat - supremely warm and light weight and has two adjustable studded tabs either side of thw waist to not it in. But yes the feathers do shed but I washed it and dried it in the tumble dryer and it's fine now. There are sometimes for sale on ebay but that can be a bit hit and miss. But if you do find one on there call Lands End and ask them to measure the ones they stok and you'll have a better idea of the fit etc. - I got all this advice from the helpful ladies on this thread
Another option is QVC's Centigrade range I got a down filled jacket approx 2 yrs ago and it's very warm and about 1/3 Lands Ends prices but not as well made.

I got this one. Price hasn't gone up I think

They used to have a full length version of it for about £50 must be out of stock but it's really warm and not at all bulky, machine washable and not too much of the feather shedding going on
Only problem is like Lands End p&p and returns are pricey. But I guess it would cover petrol / bus fares if you had to go out shopping (I hate high street shopping I'd rather have a root canal done at the dentist!)
just got an email from Curvissa free P&P this weekend, might be worth a look?

Hope you find something nice soon, it's about to get cold this week brrrrrrr

The link didn't work, but generally speaking very/LW stuff is cheap quality at expensive prices, only worth buying when it's on sale, with discount codes etc. Obviously there are exceptions, but as a general rule they are not great.
Also since they have separated their plus ranges (they used to do many styles up to size 28), bigger sizes are much more expensive.0 -

thanks for the info on Very (tried the link again). I'm sure LE is much better quality. Someone suggested lookng at their US site for more reviews, thanks for that, was useful.
Thanks Bush for info, found the shimmer down in plus, so am hopeful as it sounds so snuggly.:)
I've ordered 4 coats from LE (some had already gone out of stock - must be the cold weather!) and just accept paying the postage and return, http://www.landsend.co.uk/Women%27s-Diamond-Down-Coat/P_22621,en_GB,pd.html in plus size http://www.landsend.co.uk/Women%27s-Shimmer-Down-Coat/P_22578,en_GB,pd.html, http://www.landsend.co.uk/Women%27s-Essential-Down-Coat/P_22575,en_GB,pd.html and thought I'd try a squall too http://www.landsend.co.uk/Women%27s-Stadium-Squall-Parka/P_17956,en_GB,pd.html
So fingers crossed one of them looks ok!!
We have had a little hail and slushy snow here this morning, so really need something warm0 -
Just an update on my search for a warm flattering jacket in case anyone else is searching - I got my order from Landsend, the shimmer parka I really liked was out of stock, but this one http://www.landsend.co.uk/Women%27s-...,en_GB,pd.html
was good - cinches in at waist and shaped at back so I don't look like sack of spuds, as with the others.
Got it for £34.50 and a further 25% off so really happy, even tho I had to pay postage and £3 return for other items.
Its is so warm and light, but not waterproof. I'm a 20 and got plus size 1x and there's room to wear jumper under if needed.0 -
