I am on the hunt for some long sleeve plain tops at the moment too, so will let you know how i get on and what i find.

I had that search a couple of weeks ago. I'm outside the "normal" sizes on tesco, and sometimes in the range on asda. Okay yes tescos does have the plus range, but some of it is a bit meh, and dear.

I eventually settled with mens white and black round neck tops from asda. £5 each, long sleeve, plain. I bought mine online for store delivery, both went upto size 4XL (chest 54-56"). in store they probably have more.

I'm getting to the stage that I really object to paying £20-30 for a plain top, no fancy cut, no fancy patterns, shape, studs etc. Just a basic range, so whilst they were mens, they're actually ok, however long sleeves on them, long! I'll hem up the sleeves a little. Even the cost of an evans black vest I needed was priced at £12. basic. Stuff that costs a few quid in supermarket ranges, and places like bon marche, m&co, etc.I'm gunna get started and not stop :D
  • great, I'm pleased for you :)
which one is it? the link doesn't work.

Hope this works, sorry I'm useless at links - shocked to see its now at £69.50 again, no way I think its worth that, yet alone £120. Material is quite "cheap and nylony" to be honest - sort of having second thoughts, because went to wear it the other night, it was pouring with rain, and I knew down coats spoil in rain, so may still send it back.

Ideally what I want is a parka with nice detachable fur collar that doesn't look like a shiny navy school coat, maybe in brown/taupe/coffee colour, longish, almost to knee, not too heavy, but warm and water proof for at least half an hour. And with a waist shape. In size 20/22.

Annoys me that all the great ones on Mumsnet they mention stop at size 18 max.

Talking of mens clothes from Asda, I used to buy quite cheap ladies large size jeans from them which were not the best quality but comfy and a good fit. They discontinued them so I tried their slouch men's jeans. Fantastic quality, a great price and they fit really well. Better than what Evans' has on offer. Plus they come in different lengths so no need to turn them up which was an added bonus.

Either it was sheer luck, or the quality has changed, because the first two jackets I got from them were fantastic, one incredibly warm, the other one light an colourful, both really well made.
The last one was cheap, and the plus sizes badly cut. I got a normal size as well for someone else, mine is too baggy from the waist down, too much cold air gets in, and obviously doesn't look good, while the size 14 is a really nice fit, although not as warm as they say on the website either.
what a pity, such a difference!

There are a couple of clothing chains in Australia, My Size (https://www.mysize.com.au) and Taking Shape (their plus range https://www.ts14plus.com.au/ ) which are quite good. I've had some good quality corporate clothes from TS over the years. My Size ship worldwide - I can't remember if TS do it.

I'm going to do a couple of xmas markets in Germany 2nd week dec, and I'm a bit worried about clothes/warmness. Basically gloves hat, scarf's I can do, but I'm living in either jeans or trackie bottoms which I'm guessing wont be overly suitable! I can't just walk into a shop and buy some ski-pant typed things (26/28)
I do have a couple of pairs of underleg things that are supposedly thermal. If i get a cheap pair of bigger jeans and wear those underneath, would that do me?
feet I suspect will be problematic, have raynauds anyway in my feet, but have a large supply of thermal (!) socks, and good thick new rock shoes to wear, top wise I was planning warm hoodies, and taking a thermal vest with me to wear under the hoodies or jumper I take.

Is this overkill, or recommended? Anything bottom wise more suitable, that I could buy in 26-28 sizes that would be warm, waterproof too?

Also I have a cheap wool coat that isn't waterproof and kinda heavy when it gets damp. Would I be better with a few hoodies under neath then a plastic mac on top?

I went to the German markets a few years ago and it was lovely. Take layers, then if you do get too warm, you can remove some. I find mittens are warmer than gloves, and wear a good hat. The trapper hats are good because they cover your ears too. For Iceland earlier this year, I bought some thermal leggings & long sleeve top from Field & Trek (£7.99 each). Wool socks are good, because they stay warm even when wet. I struggled to find some, but got them in TK Maxx in the end. And got some snow boots from Mountain Warehouse. Again, they weren't too expensive. You lose most heat from your feet and head, so concentrate on keeping those bits covered. And of course, mulled wine helps keep you warm from the inside...:) Enjoy your trip.

Hi lifeforms, we've been to Christmas markets in germany and it can be VERY cold, especially where we were on Baltic coast.

Answer is loads of layers and real wool.

I got XL thermals from Uniqlo and they were great, long and stretchy to tuck in. I wore them under jeans, and a long sleeved thermal top from M and S outlet, then a real lambswool (or any real wool) roll neck, because real wool is so much warmer.

They have loads of mens crew necks in lambswool in nice bright colours in matalan, about £15 I think. Then I got a ski jacket from TXMaxx which was so warm and cosy and waterproof and windproof with good hood. Only trouble is, ski jacket only just cover my bum, would prefer longer. Why not look at mens ski trousers also in TK Maxx?

Had long mens merino wool socks, hat and scarf and gloves. really needed them. Flat snow boots non slip. Can't stress enough how cold it can be -there can be snow, rain, a biting wind, ski stuff is made for that.

We are off to salzburg this year, probably will have a heat wave now!!

That's a new site, thank you.
The only leggings and thermal top I found at that price go up to size 18, they seem to have a lot of stuff, but I could not see anything plus size up to 26/28 (which is my size as well as lifeform's so I'm really interested!), do you have a link to the plus size section?
£7.99 would be a very good price :).

Uniqlo women's clothes in size XL according to their chart only fit a size 16. What plus size would you say they actually fit a 26/28, or were you talking about men's?
Do you have a link to the item you would recommend for plus size, I think it would be useful because thermal clothes in plus sizes is so hard to find!
