You've given me lots to think about thanks - I will report back when I've had a try on. Any more ideas welcome in meantime. Thanks for all your help x
Why not try the very outlet on ebay, there is a very nice royal blue dress on there at under £12. delivered and they have sizes 16 all the way upto 28. And remember that there is also a marks and spencers outlet on ebay that have some wonderful clothes in all sizes but some really beautiful dresses, I have bought a few myself and at upto 75% off the original price.
Very also has a size guide to tell you what will fit and what won't, which is helpful.
Who says you can't look good and save a few pounds to buy something else with ?0 -

Looking for a plain black long length(just below hips) waterproof winter weight jacket with a hood for work. Don't want lots of pockets or fur trims. Used to buy Rosetti ones but can't seem to find them now. Marks had one I liked but it was quite expensive. Would like it to look smart. Any help appreciated. Always find it difficult to get jackets that don't cost a fortune.

I was going to suggest landsend too
You can often find discount codes here on MSE, or on hot uk deals.
I got a few coats and they were very good, except the last one, got two for myself and someone else and it wasn't very good. The first two were excellent quality, and v. cheap on sale + discount codes.0 -
Thanks Jenny and all others previously for advice on my dress for special occasion, I ordered some dresses from Evans as offer on (thanks Terra) and to my amazement, the first one I tried fits me really well, and is quite flattering, even without the industrial underwear.
I will get a shrug or something to cover my arms a bit. I'm not used to wearing a dress, but altho Evans are not always great, this material is nice and soft and not all shiny or cheap looking. Not sure how to do links.

It was a bargain too, and I could wear it in a more casual way too, so very pleased and amazed0 -

This store sells a lot of vintage inspired and goth style clothes:
https://www.chicstar.com
They deliver internationally with very reasonable postage ($8 for retail orders up to $100, free for above) and there's lots of vouchers online. They also do a weekly customer photo contest where you can model what you've bought for $10 cashback per photo and $100 if you win.

I've seen this company before. Their dresses look very pretty!
It'a Chinese company (the eyes of models are cut, but they are Chinese) I've seen their stuff on eBay as well.
I've also just remember another USA site that used to be very popular, they do lovely goth clothes, up to very large sizes. Here's one of my fav dresses:
http://holyclothing.com/index.php/catalog/product/view/id/15705/s/venus-diamond-neck-satin-lace-full-a-line-skirt-sun-dress/
When purchasing from the USA you would need to add customs and vat costs, and also returning would probably be very expensive (if they accept returns).
Here's a site that helps you calculate customs (+ you need to add approx. £10 admin fee charged by Royal Mail/courier).
(although you may be lucky and not paying anything, particularly if the parcel is sent via RM it may slip through).0
