I’ve just come away with one of those big, blue Ikea sacks packed full of Tomy Tomica track & buildings, plus a couple of trains and other bits and bobs. I paid £10 after talking them up from the £5 they originally wanted (and still it’s a huge bargain). I’m going to be a very popular dad when I arrive home tonight, assuming I don’t do my back in on the way ...

All I got at the car boot this week was very, very wet!
  • Was at the car boot yesterday and was very lucky. Like wearing blouses to work and someone had a rail of new ones from M&Co and catalogue in my size for £2.00. Spent £25.00 and got enough work clothes for the next year. Would have picked majority of them myself.
  • Load of dross at my local one this morning - mind you, it was the third one this weekend in the area, so I guess it was all the stuff left over from Saturday and Sunday's boot sales. Did get a lovely Topshop top for £1, but sadly that was it. Very slim pickings.
  • Car boots locally were washed out this weekend, but the dearth in the CSs locally seems to have stopped for the moment....

    1950s hand-thrown vase 75p
New black Birkenstocks clogs, my size £2
2 M&S Portfolio dresses, perfect for work, and with tags, £3 each
and the extravagance - a super 1950s black and red damask evening gown, perfect condition - £8 (for Ebaying at Xmas...!)
  • I love reading all the bargains that you guys get! As an avid charity shop shopper & car boot buyer, I thought that I should start posting some of my own bargains.

Today I paid a quick visit to our local charity shops & although the pickings were fairly slim, I still managed to get a nice blue & white checked shirt, which looks brand new for £3.59, a pair of vintage white sunglasses from the 80s, still with the original price tag on for 95p & a John Lewis picture frame with space for loads of photos for £1.95.

Charity shop shopping is the best! :)
  • Local car boot this morning - picked up a lovely glazed stoneware casserole and lid - £4 asked, I haggled it down to £2, hoping it might be Denby. Turns out to be 'Made in Cley', hand thrown, with a list price of about £44 I think - I always admire things like that in shops but am too tight to spend money on them!

This week in the CS's I got DD a pair of linen trousers for next summer from Next for £1.45, some navy linen trousers from M&S autograph girls for £1, both looked unworn. Also a tunic top brand new with tags for me for winter £3.50 and a top that I wore out last night for £1.50. Last week I got a white shirt in a CS in Dartmouth while I was away that I wore to an interview and now have a second interview for that job on Tuesday. Why it took me 42 years to embrace buying second hand I will never know!!
