Best to keep the advice accurate. Capital gains tax exemption only applies if you are selling off your own goods and then the limit is :
the Annual Exempt (tax-free) Amount - this is £10,100 for every individual in the tax year 2010-11 - the budget proposes this will be £10,600 for the 2011-12 tax year

People buying items to sell on are subject to Income tax and all that income needs to be declared but if you have no other income then your personal allowances can be offset against it. The current perosnal allowances are here:

Has anyone done well with selling on vintage hand made childrens clothing ? It isn't a market I know anything about and it isn't an easy one to do a completed listing search for on ebay.
I've seen a 1960s starched cotton dress in a chintz pattern for a girl, ballerina length with the skirt lined in 'faux' satin and with a little bit of a soft tulle to make it stand out , that is absolutely adorable. No labels but in really excellent condition. The dealer will come down to £3.50 for me but I just wasn't sure. Dealer also had vintage evening dresses and was prepared to deal with me at trade for £15 a go, but the waist line on them was tiny...the women back then must have been as slim as reeds.
She also tried to offload fox and stoat 'collars' but I couldn't bear a dead animal draped around my neck, ugh.
Clothes are soooo not my area.
I'd stick to what you know, fashion is something you need to know about imo.0 -

Hi all, I am pleased to report my first CS bargain. Bit of background first since I am new to this thread i'm a complete shopaholic and to get my fix when money is tight have started looking at charity shops for my ..ahem.. thrills. Husband may not have a job after October so have to watch the pennies but I need to feel like i have treated myself!!
This weeks bargain Emma Bridgewater Hearts Tin Biscuit Barrel for £1 in Cancer Research!!! Will look lovely with all my Cath kidston/Nigella Lawson Retro tins in my kitchen woop.
Unfortunately my addiction did get the better of me in Cath Kidston the other day and found me purchasing an effing Will and Kate tea towel - I ask you !! I am not even remotely a royalist lol!!pennyprincess - getting more for less0 -
Being a registered business doesn't necessarily make you legal, we all know self employed people don't declare every bit of income (do jobs for cash etc) so no need to act holier than thou!
Well, Soolin, remember what Judge Judy has to say in cases like this:
Let no good deed go unpunished.
If I ever need any sensible advice, please feel free to give it to me - I promise to respond with a press of the 'Thanks' button rather than a whinge followed up with a snarl :rotfl:Reason for edit? Can spell, can't type!0 -
After spending out at an auction last month, I've tried to hold off buying anything over the past few weeks, however, my willpower relented last weekend and I went to my first car boot sale of the year AND a jumble sale - I needed my bargain fix!
At both the car boot sale and the jumble sale I bought some beautiful vintage china for my hire business. Some of the pictures are on my blog - the rest will be going on over the next few days.
At the jumble sale I also bought some new The Sanctuary smellies (love that stuff), a Christmas dressing up set for my daughter (I just hope I remember where I've put it come December) and a Richard Scarry book, which is a bit tatty, but DD has loved having a couple of stories from it over the past few nights.

does anyone remember I spy ?? I picked up "I spy at the seaside" for my daughter - had forgotten how informative etc they were!! We live on the South Coast quite scary that some of the photos from the 80s could have been taken today (Donut stall on the pier etc etc). Apart from that not many bargains to be had although the shops I visited were VERY expensive - they are in well to do areas. It does make me sad. When we were growing up and quite poor my Mum bought some of our clothes from CS but there would be no way she could do that now at at least £7 for a childs dress :-Opennyprincess - getting more for less0

I remember I spy books.
My friend has just started reading Charlaine Harris books I told her not to buy them new as I am sure I can find the whole set in a charity shop - so off I trotted to the Oxfam shop at Dalson (all books £1) and lo and behold there was practically the full set - she has read 1,2 and 8 and guess what was on the shelf 3,4,5,6,7.
