OS Daily Thread - Sunday 4th October

Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for Sunday 4th October. It is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good.
Morning all
A little Johnny Cash for this morning - a cover of a U2 song. I love his voice, and it really brings the song to life. Click HERE to listen.
CFiftyeighter and CCStar - good to have you with us.

CCStar - I know all about controlling mothers. Mine hasn't spoken to me in nearly 3 years now and has stopped me seeing my beloved nephews, so I really know what you are going through. I can't offer much comfort except to say don't blame yourself. We cannot control what another person says or does to us, but we can control our reactions to it.
Bitsy - we haven't had rain in nearly a month either and the poor water butt is getting cobwebs in it!
Tiredmum - I am so sorry you had to go through all that but at least your son is in the best place to get the help he needs. Big hug for you hon.
flutterby - Oooooh I love the sound of your shopping. I usually head right for the marketplace as I love all the shiny pretty things they have down there.
Sounds like you got some great bargains with the rest of your shopping too - well done you!
Jackie - Thank you for your comments, and I have no doubt things have improved since I went through it 10 yrs ago. I shall certainly pass on the tip about Lucosade. I bought R. the book 'Even the Eyebrows' after reading an article written by the authoress, and found it fabulous.
Gertadurna - Well done for speaking up for your colleague!
Mioliere and Bargainbird -
for those kind words. I do try.
Hester - hope you get some sleep soon hon
Taplady - still sending positive vibes out for Janet

We went out and picked up our plant pots from the lady on Freecycle yesterday and they were bigger than I thought which was even better as I have a lot of stuff to replant and the bigger the better! I hope today we will have another lovely day. It was a bit windy but I don't mind that as long as it stays warm. I am itching to get out into the garden now.
Couldn't find any clean tshirts/shirts in the wardrobe and realised that because we have had different home helps this week they had put them all in my OHs tshirt draw. I had visions of having to leave the house in my pjs..
I have a bit of a craving for garlic bread today so might just make some. We tend to skip lunch as such and just have breakfast then an early dinner later so I am thinking pasta bake for dinner with said garlic bread and boiled eggs and toast for breakfast. I love boiled eggs and lots of buttery toast.
Anyway, I hope you all have a peaceful and loving Sunday. Warm gentle
for anyone who wants one!

Hi MSD - another early riser? I woke up at about 3-ish and just couldn't get back to sleep - don't know why because I was tired when I went to bed!
Anyway, have had a good surf around on the net in peace and quiet, so I'm not complaining. I know I'll have a snooze this afternoon to make up for it!
Tired Mum - thinking about you and your DS.
Well, OS-wise, I have a lot of dust to get rid of now that DH has finished fitting a door to the attic bedroom. The walls are really thick and not straight so he's had quite a job on his hands making the door fit. It's going to look lovely, though, and makes the doorway look as if it leads to a fairy-tale cottage. I'll take photos when it's been painted or stained and waxed - we can't decide which at the moment. There are loads of big old wooden beams so the door may look better painted white - decisions, decisions. The window in the room is very quaint, too, so that will have to be painted to match.
Well, dinner tonight is going to be shepherd's pie, at DH's request. I haven't done one for a while. Lunch will be some more of the onion soup I made yesterday, which turned out really well.
Anyway, I'm off for a shower. See you all later. Have a great Sunday.

Hi,
Ive been up since 4 as my eldest son (19) overdid it last night and threw up everywhere:eek: I am so fed up with him and shouted very loudly:mad:. I used a whole tub of bicarb but it is horrendous and dont know where to start. He has absolutely no respect for my house and my feelings as this is NOT the first time it has happened but this is definitely the worst. I shall take great delight waking him up at 7.30 to go to work.
Why did I ever have children? Its so much harder being a parent
now than when they were little. When will it get better?
Im shattered and have a busy day as kids dad taking me to Costco. Oh Im so fed up.
Sorry,
MollyxI must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.

I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.

Morning everyone. I'm up this early due to panicky thoughts about my loved ones, it's getting to the point where it's really effecting my sleep and daily life to be honest. After all these years i'm going to make a GP appointment on Monday. Really scared but life is for living right?
So Sunday then! Well, i'm new to OS cleaning so it's grout cleaning with a toothbrush today and more newspaper window cleaning. Will search the board for a home made solution fo my glass table too, the newspaper just can't work on the greasy tops but I refuse to go get more well known brand glass cleaner.
Making a traditional sunday lunch today so chicken in the slow cooker and most do my mountain of ironing. No fun or frolics today just nitty gritty.
I'm off back up to bed to try to get 30 minutes rest before little ones wake up. Till late every one.0 -
Morning all
GP is on, I'm providing copious amounts of tea & bacon sarnies.
The party was great last night, though we didn't stay too late as I knew we'd be up at 5 to watch the GP.
No idea what we'll eat today as hubby is working today, he starts at 10 but not sure when he's finishing.
Have a good day.
Hugs Hester

I know I'm preaching to the converted but.. I didn't go back to bed for 30 mins cat nap. Nope, I went and mixed bleach with bicarb and white vinegar and scrubbed the grout. Wow! So easy!
Sorted through washing, got loads (pardon the pun!) and going to stew a batch of fruit for the freezer. I'm raring to go now, sure to have a meltdownlater though.0 -
Morning everyone.
DS wet the bed AGAIN last night  This is despite us limiting his water intake and making him have a wee before he goes to bed and then again when we do. I have no choice at the moment other than to put him back in nappies. He'll hate it but I can't cope with the washing and the wet duvets and pillows (due to the way he lies in bed). I only changed his bed again yesterday (due to wetting it the night before) and its all got to be washed again. I feel for him as he's obviously stressed poor lad but its interupting his sleep and ours when it wakes him in the night.
Beef in the SC for tea. There is a huge mountain of ironing to be done (as we never did it last sunday - BIG mistake ). Might take DS out on his new bike at the park or something if weather stays nice. Had a slight drizzle of rain yesterday and nothing. Wasn't even enough to wash off the chalk marks that the kids made a few weeks ago
Think my courgettes are coming to an end, shame really but I've had so many we were practically eating them for every meal! I shall pull them out and I am going to plant some peas in a week or so - wish me luck! Not grown them before. My leeks are doing OK (despite being a little crowded by courgette plants) and my brassicas are having a second lease of life
Thank goodness the ruddy white cabbage butterfly is no longer around. Just the slugs and snails to contend with instead........
Molly -Sorry to hear about your DS. I admit in my youth to getting into some states but I am suprised he'd get so drunk when he has work
MicheH - White veinegar and water - mix half and half and spray the glass. Cleans it a treat and then buff with newspaper
Far cheaper than the likes of windolene which quite frankly smells far too chemical for my liking and ALWAYS leaves streak marks!
Diva - My H is a massive Johnny Cash fan. I don't like everything he's done but I have a few faves, The Man Comes Around is one of them http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FtK-QCiD-FE - you might not like the video that accompanies this but just shut your eyes and listen.
Have a good Sunday OS or not.I have a gift for enraging people, but if I ever bore you it'll be with a knife

Morning All
To those with children - when my Nan was 90 she still used to worry about her boys - 57 yr old, 58yr old & a 62yr old so it never stops!! Sorry for that cheery thought :rotfl:
Been up ages but not got too much done so far, had a early visitor - DSIL dropped off DS' pressies for last week, she has a busy day so thought she would get it done early which is good for me - she turned up at 7.15am:eek: I was up but not dressed.
Lamb in the slow cooker with some Rosemary & Garlic for later. Need to put a load of washing on then gonna jump in the shower. Fry up for brunch then off to take the dog for a walk down the water - will be taking my new camera to try out. Puss y cat is doing very well although is still not putting any weight on her back leg.
Have already done next weeks meal plan :T& will do an online shop later, think will be Tesco this week & try Asda next. Cant have it delivered tommorrow as dropping off a lorry right near Ikea so going to dig out 10 books & get 2 x £5 vouchers. Need to look in there for some boxes & jars to out Xmas pressies in.
Enough for now - have a great day.x0 -
morning:j
DS at his dads overnight so could have had a lie in but no, OH woke me at 6 going for a coffee and a fag:rolleyes:......6 was a lie in tho i guess:p
MSD thanks for the "man in black" this morning....was better than Manly Barilow the other week;)...I like jonny cash. DS sings Ring of Fire. For a 6 year old he has an eclectic list of songs he sings. I have a big list of songs for my first dance at our wedding and Ring of Fire is on it...not sure if it is a bit naff...will prob go for a Michael Jackson number(am not the slow dance Michael Buble type:p).....however the way money has always been short I am thinking Forever in Blue Jeans by Neil Diamond may be more apt:rotfl:. Lovely to see how special you are to your friends.....you are a lovely lady and your family are missing out.
Bitsy DS has waterproof covers on his pillows and duvet for the same reason....he doesnt wet the bed often now....last time he did was at a B&B in the summer on the way to my parents.....that was the first time in a year...they pick their times eh:rolleyes:
Today am going to get clothes ready for going away tomorrow to a farm stay cottage. Am hoping DS will love it as he loves animals. I have the usual things in place ie taking his quilt etc and a Sainsbury shop coming today to take with us.
i have to bake a batch of Twinks to take with us today and I have some onions salting to make pickled onions as just used last jar from shed. Starting on the stocks again.
Molly41 sorry your son is being a pain. I do remember my brother going through the same thing at that age but he did grow out of it...hugs.
MicheH I have the same sort of anxiety probs since having PND after having DS. I get panicky when he isnt with me and get convinced something is going to happen to him:o. It is a problem for me when he goes to his dads as I convince myself he might have an accident or something...it is awful. I have a thing stuck in my fridge about it and I read that and it helps. It basically says it is a form of "negative preparation". We all hae to accept that we cant control every aspect of our loved ones lives and let the fears go. it recommends slow deep breaths when you get these panics and repeating positive statements like " I am feeling safe" and " the people I love are safe and well" .
TiredMum sorry to hear about your DS. I hope he can get some help now...hugs0 -
Morning, everyone. Just sat here watching the recorded GP and thinking of grabbing a bit of breakfast. Not feeling too great in myself; last night I was rushed off my feet doing jacket potatoes with beans, cheese, etc for about ten people and burnt my arm quite badly on one of the oven shelves - ouch.
It's blistering at the moment so I'm keeping it moisturised and cool with a bit of aftersun, and keeping an eye on it.
It was nice yesterday though, although the oven was on for quite a while so I'm worrying about the gas bill. At least it made the house nice and warm! I'm not sure what is on the cards for today, but I know I'm going to try and relax. I want to do some more sewing, and use up the large number of jacket potatoes cooked for people who didn't turn up!
Now, I'm going to get some leftover jambalaya and have it for breakfast
(((hugs))) to those in need, and have a good day everyone.
