    Hi guys

Meanwhile, the MSE News team is finding out whether the rumours that Tesco has decided to stop accepting coupons are true.

    Thanks!

    Andrea :)

Guess you've not visited a Tesco since 3.00pm on Friday then. If you had you couldn't fail to notice the signs at most till points saying they only take coupons if item bought.

We are annoyed by Martin annoucing on GMTV that some supermarkets could take a coupon or two (or 10) without buying the product it was meant for. This is what some of us have been doing for years and now can do no more thanks to it being broadcast to the masses via national TV.

    Hi guys,

This is what Tesco has told us:

“As of last Friday, when using a voucher, whether issued by Tesco or a supplier, you have to buy the product that the voucher is intended for. This applies to all Tesco stores.”

Just to re-iterate what Andrea has said. This site is all about saving people money, we are never exclusive and we want everyone to have access to information that can help them, that's our job.

There's a full news story coming soon.

“As of last Friday, when using a vouchers, whether issued by Tesco or a supplier, you have to buy the product that the voucher is intended for (it wasn't like that when I started using coupons, until Martin Lewis mentioned on GMTV telling the ppl how to use coupons to pay for their groceries without buying the product) He (M.Lewis) specifically show the reporter coupon net coupons and said = "All you have to do is go to the shop ask the customer service, show them the coupons - excuse me, can I use these coupons to pay for my groceries even though I didn't buy the product?" and he (ML) also said on the TV - please do not use it at self scan - that will be fraud! (That part is TRUE). This applies to all Tesco stores.”

Yes, majority of us knows about it since Friday because we were in the shop doing our usual shopping. I was 14 minutes late when my normal cashier said "sorry dear we no longer accept coupons as of 3pm today".

OMG. I'm so gutted! Was in the middle of a lengthy email exchange with Tescos customer service about this very subject - I had no idea all this debate or possible changes were afoot- its just I'd had so many conflicting answers from various checkout staff when I've tried to use coupons.

The head office guy was kindly contacting the manager's of my local stores to find out their local policy. He'd already got back to me about one store saying they will def accept coupons for items I don't purchase as long as they stock them and I only use one of each kind.

I've emailed him the link to the story now and asked him if his info is still correct!!! What a pain in the butt! I have a purse full of vouchers I've saved up, waiting till I was armed with an email from HQ definitively saying I could use them to avoid any more checkout arguments.

Looks like I've missed the boat now :(

Yes correct but the above was only after Martin Lewis make it public on TV.

  • As it now seems that the ban is permanent, then we really do need to vote with our feet, and shop around- there are bargains still to be had, we are all going to have to work harder for them- not easy, when Tescos was my nearest store by several miles......am still devastated - every little ( & I can honestly say that I only ever handed over 10-20%) really DID help.
