FWIW - and I know you have the best intentions - I really think this is aimed in the wrong direction.

IMHO the blame lies with the scammers. This is not a knee-jerk reaction to Martin;s appearance I am certain, their policy was ALREADY being reviewed and the massive abuse of Pedigree/Archant coupons decided it.

The way to address the problem lies with writing to Sir Terry as above.

not aimed at attacking martin lewis in anyway, just thought, he owns this site, he might be the best person to contact tesco head office and ask for them to review the situation, alongside our concerns, im not fab at wording emails, often get too gobby so thought if everyone helped, a joint effert we could get this done and sent to martin;)

beats sitting around just moaning bout it

    Dear Martin Lewis,
we,on the "money off coupons" thread are devestated by the recent events that affect so may of us, we do wonder if all this would have happened had there not been so much media coverage in the last week or so, as you are "our leader" maybe you can see a way to resolving this problem, in doing so you will help not only us but also tesco, because as their sales go down our budgets go up way over our heads in some cases........

ok said my bit, over to you all but lets keep it civilised,:D
Live for today, for tomorrow is promised to no-one.

never complain about growing old,far too many people have been denied that privilege.

Once again, the good folk on here did think there could be a problem with this one. But many users will have been the ones who heard of the policy via TV. You can tell from the quote, these were not regular coupon users.

    Here's the story:-

    http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/2666392/Pedigree-chumps-at-Tesco.html

The important bit time wise - in the article is THURSDAY - two days after Mr Lewis was on tv. It was probably the last straw for T's - especially so soon after the Cambridgeshire fiasco!!!

Agreed, it's too important (it always was with Tesco too...). Everyone will have to go to their nearest Waitrose and CHECK what is stocked on their shelves. And ask how many coupons you can use (each store is different, mine only take 3).

I agree with Mad, we should all boycott Tesco if we can, say for the month of October. Shop elsewhere, find bargains and ways to use up some coupons, post our finds on this thread.

There has been talk of this change being a 4 week trial - so let's remove our business and write in to Sir Terry very politely, stating that we have voted with our feet because Tesco are not the cheapest unless we can use some genuine coupons as we always did. Happily admit to being a coupon-user who uses the internet and KNOWS about some of the abuse that was being reported, ask why they had to tar all coupon-users with the same brush with a blanket ban?

Let's all ask if they can please investigate the possibility of a middle ground, say 50% off using original or Couponnet/Couponsafe coupons only (not Coupon Smart - they were the Pedigree ones). Maybe newspaper & magazine coupons only if title bought, if these are also a problem?

We have a lot of knowledge about coupons, let's use it to best effect with intelligent suggestions to Sir Terry, all letters being posted en masse next week?

very good idea, but i think an individually written letter, or note in an email, will pack more of a punch than a template with names on. shows more effort right?

CM - read posts 630 & 639 and see if you still think the same.

I have read all the posts, and re-read those two.

I also just watched what Martin Lewis said on GMTV and it was as mild a mention of 'asking for a 30p discount' as I have ever seen! Not specifically singling out Tesco and he was using Couponnet mocs as an example which are as abuse-safe as printables can be! It was nothing to worry about at all IMHO - but his timing has landed him in the frame.

I believe that Tesco staff mentioning Martin Lewis is their opinion only, they always were good at Chinese Whispers about policy...everything always did get distorted by the time the cashiers were 'quoting' it. And I don't mean bulgariafairy or any of our posters here, who are GREAT!

I mean any Tesco staff Supervisor who passed on the decision to stop the Coupon Policy could have easily dropped in their twopenneth about Martin Lewis - then it gets repeated instore as if it's the REASON for the change! Ridiculous! Most stores haven't a clue about the massive abuse in Cambs & Derbys, we do know about it so I believe we know why the decision was made. The abuse had become too widespread, very quickly, and had to be stopped.

I agree with what Browntoa says. The decision was made because of ABUSE, that's it.

I actually meant re the timing of what has happened - the scammers must have hit on it straight away.
  • No comment from Martin or board guides then:rolleyes: They can afford to eat though while some of us now go without.
Yes this site is great, we have gained a lot from other users who alert us to offers and promotions long before our great leader even notices. This site is supposed to be non profit so are we to assume he is not getting paid for the GMTV sopot.

great idea much better to send lots of mail give them something to think about.

I've never used printed coupons as I haven't got a printer. I enjoyed getting a few pounds off my shopping every month as it helped cover the cost of the petrol used to get there as I live a long way away from the store.I also used to buy tobacco, cigarette papers and petrol from them (which you can't use coupons on) and occasionally have a cuppa in the cafe. But now I'll just be doing all that at another store. I'll include that in my email too so they know how much more they're losing

Maybe,if losing coupons means customers shopping elsewhere as they search for lower prices, then cashiers will have fewer coupons to check and scan, then queues won't be very long at the tills, so there won't be a need for quite so many cashiers either will there
