DVLA Clamped Car, worried about outcome

Yes, years ago, and I'm sure a few in the minority are like that still. Well if someone is stopped by the police and has done nothing wrong then does it really matter as they're then free to go?BYALPHAINDIA wrote: »No, I know for a fact that when they (2 person team) returns to their base their OIC will ask them how many drivers they have stopped, Cautioned & reported.
Some OIC were notorious years ago for telling their officers to 'RAMP IT UP' a bit and STOP MORE drivers, Even if it means for no apparent reason just to make the numbers up.
Just to keep the OIC's OIC of their backs regarding the statistics.
I think the drivers who drive whilst speaking on their phone should be stopped and have their mobile phone crushed in front of them!!
The police don't always play by their set rules you know?
And they can't just stop someone for no reason, they have to have some kind of suspicion. They can't exactly put 'I stopped him cos I felt like it' on the paperwork can they?
No they don't play by set rules; hence why they don't always stop people who are technically breaking the law but not actually causing any harm. E.g. doing 31mph in a 30 etc.0 -
True, It is not much like that nowadays, But the Police I think still have the power to stop someone even on foot under this new 'Stop & Search' law they have nowadays?
I'm sure our CCO of West Yorkshire Mr Bettison would be alarmed if his officers were not bringing in the statistics regularly?Thomson 757 Man0 -
We had a 'Funny' incident here in West Yorkshire were a driver had jumped into the back of his car when stopped.
Leaving his Dog sat in the driving seat!!!!!!!:rotfl:
I am still laughing now.......Thomson 757 Man0 -
What? What on earth would possess someone to do such a thing?BYALPHAINDIA wrote: »We had a 'Funny' incident here in West Yorkshire were a driver had jumped into the back of his car when stopped.

Isn't the stop and search thing a different kettle of fish? Terrorism rather than traffic.0 -
Well I imagine if you can't afford however much they want to give the car back then it'll just get crushed or sold and you shouldn't have to pay a penny towards impounding fees etc. That's how it works with the police anyway.
Here's hoping.
I just have a feeling I'll be getting a letter with the £80 DVLA fine and numerous other things tagged onto it (Storage, removal etc).
With regards to other responses, I knew I was in the wrong. I just hoped I wouldn't get caught. I wanted to keep the car until I had a new job, because other than light wing damage the car is such a good runner and has tens of thousands of miles left in it, shame it'll be crushed now.
Lesson learnt, I certainly wouldn't have tried it with a car worth more than a couple of hundred quid.
But the idea I read on another forum was good: A Red Tax disc, for situations like this (houses with no off road storage), like a SORN but for people that just need their car to sit outside their house for a bit (maybe limited to 6 months etc)
Thanks for the help guys, I'll keep you updated.0 -
I once had a car I wanted to send for scrap so I phoned the number on a 'Scrap cars wanted' ad in a local notice board. A couple of days later a man turns up with a flat bed and loads it on using an arm on the truck, I pay £40 for this privilage and the car disappears, I then send the V5 off to the DVLA to say its scrapped.
Two weeks later I get a letter off the council to telling me its abandoned about 5 miles away and will be removed at my cost in the next two days.
I managed to find someone with a trailer to help so we went the next night to find it, arrived to find it clamped. So we removed the clamp, got the car on the trailer and he took it to the metal merchants and got £60 for it which I let him keep as payment.
I never heard anything else about the car or the clamp. I expected them to chase their clamp at least, so had a story ready that it was left undamaged in the carpark as the car had no gearbox it was easy to remove.
The problem I would have had otherwise is that I didn't get a receipt from the gypsy that took it away. I've no idea why they dumped it as it was worth £60 at the metal merchants when we took it, the only thing we can think is that the merchants refused to take it without a V5.
Lesson learned, never trust scumbag !!!!!!.0 -
Thank god for that,BYALPHAINDIA wrote: »Oh right, No I was just TELLING IT AS IT IS in (West Yorkshire)
That's enough said from me.
Can we have it in writing?0 -
Makes no difference, it needs to be Taxed, MOT'd and insured to be Driven on the public highway.
If I had fallen on " hard times " I would not leave an un-untaxed car on the road, I would get rid of it.
Fixed it for you so it's not a lie any more. The truth may be out there, but the lies are inside your head. Terry Pratchett

thats a rubbish lesson to learn.
that should be taken as a given surely?
they don't pay any tax ( which i would love) but expect all the same privledges as if they did.
take take take.
so whats so hard to understand about them? they won't do anything unless theres cash in it for them.
not that hard a lesson to learn....work permit granted!0 -

What is that all about?, of course a car needs to be Taxed, Insured and MOT'd ( if over 3 years old ) to be on the public highway, driving it or not.0
