DVLA Clamped Car, worried about outcome

I'm wondering what's going to happen in this situation.

My cars has been clamped this morning (02nd Oct), will no doubt be towed away this morning (03rd Oct) for not having any road tax.

I hold my hands up and know I'm in the wrong. The car is parked on the road, I live in a terrace house and there is no off road parking anywhere. I was waiting to get a job before taxing it again. Big mistake.

There is no way I can afford any fines. I'm on JSA at the moment so can't even afford the release fee and then to organise someone to scrap it.

So I'm guessing there will be all kinds of fees they will tot up (£21 day storage, crushing fee, no tax fine etc).

What happens in this case? The main issue being, I can not pay the fine, I simply do not have the money. Court? Jail?!

:(

No one is going to jail you for it!

If the worst comes to the worst and you are summonsed for non payment, you will be able to explain your circs and make suitable arrangements.

Nest time,.park your untaxed vehicle on spare ground or on the pavement like everyone else;)

? Pavement is part of the Highway, youll still get done, same as parking.

Not neccesarily. A portion of the pavement is often counted as private property as it is included in the curtilage of adjacent buildings. It's how you can park motorbikes there without worrying about a ticket, though it would have to be an unusual area to fit a car on it.

Then youve still got to Drive/Push the motorbike "Illeagly" over a pavement to get there, amazing the number of Motorbike Riders who do this, like the ones who "Chain" their Bikes/Mopeds in "Bicycle" Parking bays and are amazed when they get tickets.

Road Tax is a civil matter not criminal so you won't get a record or anything like that.

However, you will lose the car unless you can stump up the charges.

No road tax often means no insurance either, the OP didn't mention insurance or MOT, so can we assume that he had them?

Makes no difference, it needs to be Taxed, MOT'd and insured to be on the public highway.

If I had fallen on " hard times " I would not leave an un-untaxed car on the road, I would get rid of it.

I've already acknowledged I've made a mistake, the car wasn't worth much but I didn't want to scrap it knowing I might have a job soon. But I had no where to store it either, so I took the risk and lost.

There was no MOT on the car, but I still had insurance running (not that it matters). I certainly wasn't driving it (I wouldn't want to risk points).

I know why the crack down so hard on this kind of matter, but I'm just worried about what will happen with regards to fines and court summons etc.

Well I imagine if you can't afford however much they want to give the car back then it'll just get crushed or sold and you shouldn't have to pay a penny towards impounding fees etc. That's how it works with the police anyway.
