Is it too late to join in with the Christmassy swap or was it last year you were doing it? How come you're not allowed to arrange them through MSE? I'm sure if we had a thread there'd be a lot more people willing to do it.

  • Sadly its my partner thats a bit off about HM stuff.
I'm making all HM stuff for my side of the family and he won't allow me to make stuff for his half - though i know his mother would adore it. Shes very much into that kind of stuff.
Either way, if he wants to go through boots getting gifts thats up to him, but i shall have lots of fun making my gifts for my side of the family.

Wow.. sorry not been back since last night but had a hectic day!

Can't believe there are so many of us who feel that our h/m gifts aren't appreciated :( I go the extra mile every year in recent years (not money-wise, but thoughtfulness and time-wise) but am made to feel like i'm giving them junk-yard tat! Maybe my things just aren't nice enough?! :o

I'd definitely be up for joining in the h/m gift swap - i never recieve anything h/m so it'd be a lovely change!! :D xx

Why don't you just make her something anyway? If I was making something that my OH's mum would love, she'd get it alongside his present to her.

Also, I'd love to make all HM gifts, I'm just stumped for ideas and I'm not that crafty.

Have you looked at the Crafting for Christmas threads? There is honestly such a range of things on there that I'm sure you'd find some inspiration. There's simple things like hampers and pots of gold which don't require much technical crafting, just presenting things nicely :) I was stumped a few months ago but after reading that thread through I have a list of stuff the length of my arm :o

I've done hampers for the past 4/5 years always spending around £50 in each one (sometimes splitting the costs with siblings - for our grandmas) but this year I'm about to get married and am a SAHM with our new baby, so money for me is quite tight, so would rather invest some time.

I've just had a look at jam making, so might do something like that.

I'll have a look at that thread now, cheers!

One of the best homemade presents I've received was a jar of homemade chilli and onion jam. My friend made it using a Jamie Oliver recipe. I tried it when round her house one summer. When it came to Xmas gifts, she asked me what i would like, so i asked for a jar of her chilli jam. It was stonking, and lasted for ages. The older it got, the better it tasted.

And the home made present I would absolutely love to receive?.....
I keep asking my mum at Xmas and Birthdays for her to write me her life story. Even if it was just a timeline with bullet points.

My dad died when I was 12 (Im now 27), and so I'd love a record of how my mum grew up, and about how/when mum and dad met. She has told me, but I'll never remember it all. I don't have any grandparents, so I worry that when she is gone, i will lose my family's history. I hope she will get round to it at some point.
    I would treasure it forever.

It's a shame it fizzled down to just 4 of us. Maybe we could do one for Easter if there is more interest. I love getting prezzie - but it's always me who makes the effort. I recently made a friend the a scrap book for her 40th, decorated the front and done the first 6 pages with pics from her party and said she should do the rest with more party pics that she had taken. Few months later for my 40th she gave me a smelly set (nice one) and commented thats the kind of thing I would have liked to get:eek:

    :eek:oooo grrr isn't that mean.

thankfully my "Plankets" (pillow and blanket) went down well with my nieces and nephews last year(and their parents all liked them too). it was basically a cushion cover made from fleece, it had a carry handle and a pocket at the back to put the fleece blanket it. thought it would be good for travelling as most of them have long journeys in the car at times. supposedly one of the nephews wont go anywhere without his dinosaur fleece blanket, even has it on his bed at night.

this year i'm going in to it big style - parents and brothers are all getting food hampers - homemade jams, chutneys, pickles, biscuits and sweets.
making cupcake flannels for ladies and girls, reindeer flannels for boys, pint o socks for men, and 'sock'tails for women, cross stitch book marks, mini sock monkeys with window clinger hands....

so hopefully everyone will be appreciative. I'm sure they will be

good luck to everyone with your makes,
andhopefully they will all be enjoyed and appreciated, i don think i've ever got a homemade xmas gift :(

  • I love making things, but I have to admit to being someone who isn't very appreciative of them. I never show it, and I appreciate the time gone in to making them. And I love making things myself, lol!
