Wow this seems a change of plan - you aren't still keen on a period property with mature garden?
Oh yes, I am very keen on a period property - but it is a case of will I ever be able to afford period AND location - everything I look at is one or other in my price range, and I have to be realistic.
Getting a new build, whilst having no period features, would be in the right location, walk to work, in the right part of town for me, and would not then need lots of money spent on it once we had moved in, which means that we could get on with life.....
So, location location location - when you are on a budget, something has to give.......it might be that it is ceiling roses and sash windows that gives for us.
(of course, if the new build doesn't happen, it is because an affordable period property is about to fall into our laps!)Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes. (Maud Van de Venne)Life begins at the end of your comfort zone (Neale Donald Walsch)0 -
When we bought this house, we went for period and location, and the thing that had to give was size!Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.620

Exactly Seaxwyn - we have a list of "must haves", and a list of things that would be nice but not essential, and a list of definitely nots.........so ultimately, something will have to give I am sure.......I certainly expect to compromise on something.
I would have loved Holly Cottage that came on the market earlier this year - that ticked every box.......but that, unsurprisingly, sold immediately, and is unlikely to be back on the market anytime soon, especially at such a bargain price.
Had that one come up in six months time, I would definitely have done all I could to get it - but it was just that bit too early.
We'll get the right place eventually - but the new ones do have a lot of boxes ticked. I would love a period property, but last time I bought one of those it fell down and cost me almost everything!Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes. And in the meantime there will be some houses to look at won't there..... because it is Friday, in case you hadn't noticedA positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effortMortgage Balance = £0

gallygirl - there was nothing that got me excited on rightmove this week. This one is the right location, period, nice price, but would def compromise on space, but that is the nearest I got.......sorrySuccessful women can still have their feet on the ground. I don't know whether to laugh or cry but I'm sure you'll all be laughing at this....
I've got 20 minutes until I can withdraw my bingo money so I thought I'd deposit the £10.00 now in readiness. I go to make the transaction and it asks me for the last three digits from the signature strip...ahhhh....that will be the last three digits on the back of the card that the daft dog ate!!! The remains of which are in the wheelie bin, outside, in the pouring rain! I go outside to the bin (bin day on Monday so it's very full and very smelly!) and proceed to empty the contents of the bin into a bin bag. I fill half a bin bag and find a small remnant of card....I rush back into the house to see if I can read the number.....wrong bit of card. By now I've got visions of sifting through the dogs poo to find the number I need. To cut a long story short I find two more small bits of card before 'bingo' I find the relevant bit of card with a chewed up number on it. £10 deposited. Addicted.....not I! xx0 -
