Hypno does your OH feel the difference (in terms of stress) that your position now brings compared with that dread that you mentioned in your last post? I just wondered because, although my OH would be stressed, it would be me who felt the full impact as I would have been the one looking at and juggling the figures.
Although my OH would definately feel the ease of my stress levels being taken out on him lol... I have been known to get annoyed by the sound of his breathingis that just me

Thanks SH...........its been a long old slog, though, for things to get nice. Previously the same things would just have given me a slightly lesser feeling of dread as the next payment date loomed
I also wish the people I told about the site would take it seriously and follow the same advice... but each to their own lives.... What saddens one of my relatives had martin's book - had done some things in it - I read the book - gave it back and bought my own - and did all the switching stuff etc he recommends and then gradually found my way to the forum - which is where my relationship with debt finally turned around.... She still hasn't finished the book or found her way here. She has been unemployed for the last 6 months, is single and presumably living on CC and getting more and more in debt...I'm grateful I found this place thro her but so sad she refuses to take her blinkers off and address her issues... but then that was us before too:o

My OH would worry about it, rather than get stressed about it......but yet would be worrying about something he knows nothing about.
So he would worry about how things were going to be paid for, without actually looking at the bank statements to see whether we actually had any money, or what bills were due etc.
Whereas I would be worried about it, knowing full well the extent of the shortfall, how many days till the next bill was due, how much to the nearest penny the child benefit would be and that payday was the day after the cheque I'd just written was due to be cashed, not the day before
He does know that things are not so stretched now, so he worries less about it, but he is very aware that we are not out of the woods yet, so can't let up on the efforts!Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. I know exactly what you mean (except the part about "when" you grow up!!
Its crucial for me to have my own space, always has been. The thing about thinking I should want a big house - well, its what we're conditioned for, isn't it? Onwards and upwards, as I've written. But Doris Lessing puts the question really well: to what purpose? You can get into the grind of trying to fulfil all the stereotypes and not have anything left for yourself. I'm happy enough at this level, at this level I'd rather spend what money I've got on quality of life outside the home - I had another reminder today of how important that is, a newish friend I'd not seen for a while popped up in the central library while I was there - she has cancer. Lots of secondaries - and they can't even tell her where the primary site is. Life can be very short.
I'm sorry about your friend: that's horrible. You are right about the materialism thing, though: wanting bigger/better/newer just for the sake of it is pointless, and those who don't realise it really have shallow lives. I've come to realise that you have to do what makes you happy, and sometimes that isn't as big/good/new as others who may look at you like you are daft, but that's what's right for you and that's the path you should follow.

Aww, that's so true. Beautifully said Pickle, that's left me with a very warm feeling.
Sorry about your friend Karmacat. Life is indeed short for some. Very sad.0
