Single and in Debt Part 3- The problem of surplus and excess women

Well my NYE was good, athough no nice men for me . Have to say I've been single for so long that I think I've just stopped looking, which is rubbish of me to say really. I think I've almost given up thinking that I might meet anyone so I don't even bother!
I spent New Years Day watching TV and then spent the night at my mums.
On Sunday we went driving around a few towns near where she lives, as I am thinking about moving. At the moment I'm living in Cambridge in a shared house, rent and bills £400 a month. I commute to London for the shocking cost of £380 a month. I've been wanting to move out into my own flat for a while now but can't afford it due to the rent cost of a nice 1 bed flat here (£800) and my commute cost.
A flat near my mum (15 mins to London) would be about £700 and commute would cost £150 so athough i'd be paying out a lot more than I am now, I'd still manage to live, and save £300-£400 a month.
Anyway, we drove round and I quite liked one place. Just got to really start thinking about living on my own etc.
Anyway today I did my big food shop before VAT kicks in, and have been tidying and de cluttering the house.
Made a pasta bake to cover my lunch this week, cut up some fruit for breakfast and made scones!
Great day- back to work tomorrow- boo.Debt free as of 2 October 2009

Hi
Sounds like a good day
In your signature it says you are saving for a deposit (and doing well :j) - will moving and increasing costs slow this down? Any chance of you buying with your current deposit? Shared ownership?Sometimes it's hard to walk in a single woman's shoes - that's why we need really special ones!Total debt @ Oct 2008: £29,226.42 Credit Card- £[STRIKE]7493.56[/STRIKE] - £7243.56Weightloss : 0/34lbs0 -

Hi ShoeGal
At the moment there is no chance of me buying with my current deposit. 1 bed flats here are out of my mortgage range, and I just don't want a studio. I could maybe buy south of london either normally or shared ownership, where I'm thinking of moving, but part of me thinks I need to rent first, to get an idea of what it costs to really live independently, and also decide if thats really where I want to live.
I have a season ticket and a loan for this from work so I can't do anything about it until June anyway, by that time my savings will be a lot higher and I will have put some of that aside for moving costs.
I think it will inevitably delay buying a house, but I feel like that is ok. I'll still have my savings and will be topping them up, and I'll buy eventually!
Of course, if I meet a lovely man from up this way and fall in love, the plan might change! ( a girl can only dream, right? :rotfl:)Debt free as of 2 October 2009

Hello again

That makes sense - I know we don't see the worst of house prices up here in the North :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: And sensible to get a proper idea about bills - everything costs more than you expect
I rent my flat (messed about finacially by an ex ) and I am happy with it. Have no way of getting a deposit together with my current debts but I'm not sure I'd buy at present even if I could!
Obviously, being swept off my feet by a rich, handsome man remains a long shot :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:Sometimes it's hard to walk in a single woman's shoes - that's why we need really special ones!Total debt @ Oct 2008: £29,226.42 Credit Card- £[STRIKE]7493.56[/STRIKE] - £7243.56Weightloss : 0/34lbs0 -

I'm the same, don't bother looking. I've now been single so long even my mother has given up hope!
Living on your own often throws up a lot more costs than you expect, so its a good 'experiment' before looking to buy a place.
I'm all organised for work now (booo!) except I slept so late today, I won't want to go to bed til late, so getting up at 6am is not going to be a lot of fun
I've sliced up loads of bananas and put them in the freezer ready for breakfast (and probably lunch) shakes and made a lovely veg/lentil soup that I saw the recipe for on the OS board. I had a load of blood tests done on christmas eve and found on Wednesday that I've slipped back into impaired glucose tolerance which means I'm back on a seriously restricted diet to get blood glucose levels back where they should be
No idea how the hell i'm going to stay on this diet
I'm watching Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and I would sell a limb for a choccie bar

Orangesmartie what's a impaired glucose tolerance? never heard of it.
One of my friends as changed her facebook pic to one that was taken of us on NYE and I was doing a silly face so guess who looks like the numpty, this idiot, I knew that pic would haunt me but as I'd had a drink didn't really care at the time.
Back to work tomorrow quite looking forward to it, it'll stop me spending hopefully, and got to be up by 7 so going to have an early night.0 -

The easiest way to describe it is as pre-diabetes. The body can't deal with sugar very well, you still produce insulin, but it doesn't seem to keep up with the level of sugar in the blood. It is reversible, with a careful diet and weight loss (in my case). If not tackled, then developing type 2 diabetes is a real risk.0 -
'Nother one here who had almost given up looking... that's going to change. I don't want to be in the same situation this time next year.
Ooh not sure where that came from but it's true!

Josephine, I rent too and am very impressed with your deposit savings! I rent on my own and love it, though it is expensive.
OS I am on Day 1 of the South Beach Diet. Got to be done!'The road to a friends house is never long'0
