Hey Mu55in, welcome to this thread. You've come to the right place.

Ladies in order to clear CC's and have a holiday (a goal for this year) I NEED to be quite frugal too but not going to do without a social life, as that would drive me nuts. Just going to have to do it on a VERY tight budget.

Won't be giving up chocolate, booze or men but could do with cutting down on the 1st 2 (You can never have too many men!) X

    Morning all,

hello & welcome to the madness mu55inthemule :D

not sure that I'm the right person to help with not spending. Having agreed to be Frugal & Fabulous next year I've had a last minute panic but just saved myself £128 in Faith :j

I 'saved' because I've just bought the boots I wanted, then another pair (£45 off) fell in  & then a brave pair of shoes (£40 off)tried to rescue them :Abut sadly also succumbed :( Shame eh :rotfl:

However, the purple suede platform t bars (£25) managed to escape as did the flat black snakeskins (£18) who are currently 'saved for later' :shhh:

Add that lot up & I've saved £128 ( the fact that I had to spend £195 in order to make this saving is therefore completely irrelevant. I believe that is correct sarah ? :D
  • Thanks for the welcome guys x

life doesnt always go according to a meal plan

Also working on this... best solution so far is to have stocked cupboards. The difficult bit is being a**sed to cook, but I will be destressed in 2010 and have time to cook.

Books are not a treat! They are one of life's necessities. :j

Again I say You always talk such sense :D

Absolutely - though am trying to use the library now and only buy things I really want to have and keep

Would prefer to have chocolate, alcohol & men, but if one has to go then I'm with Buffy , sorry boys [
Nope... need the chocolate, but would cheerfully stay teetotal in exchange for Mr Right

Am k-nackered. Not driving tonight as will be so icy, so now sorting satnav updates etc and going in daylight tomorrow. Except forgot to bring work laptop and am now panicking may need it, so will have to stop off and pick it up . And haven't checked tyres so will need to do it in the cold tomorrow morning  humph.

Pressies done except two people I'm not seeing til 28th, cards not done (planning to write lovely letters of apology in new year instead), have spent most of tonight tidying up after drinks party on Sunday and creation of open fire yesterday. Plus loads of washing and sorting for friends arriving on 29th. Mind you from when I get in car tomorrow I am on Do Nowt Days til 28th :j!

    Hello Mu55in :hello:, welcome

I am not overdoing the frugal thing next year, it just makes me miserable and I wind up overspending to compensate. I am going to be balanced Frugal and Fabulous, after all they are equally important :D

I'm impressed with your food budget & know that is one area I must tackle :o. I buy far more than we actually need each week & cant seem to shake the habit & I know the idea is to meal plan, but life doesnt always go according to a meal plan

I am buying less fresh food, and spending/ wasting less as a result! Frozen and tinned veg is cheaper than fresh AND does away with washing and chopping that encroaches on valuable [STRIKE]drinking[/STRIKE] housework time.

Hmmmm Fire Fox, I think you have just nailed my main area of expenditure. Trouble is that I have a phobia of all tinned veg other than ready chopped & herbed tomatoes & sweetcorn. I am so used to having fresh stuff from the allotment that I do struggle in winter ... haivng said that yesterday I had to compost some leeks & carrots that were very very bendy & mushy :o and then of course I had to go & buy more

I just buy too much food full stop. Maybe its a mother thing , before that happend I know damn well that the only thing in my fridge was wine & tonic water ... :o

I am actually gong to challenge myself to see just how long I can go without shopping again. I reckon well into New Year if I'm creative.

On a positive note I've just stretched the £1.86 credit in my Amazon account to order Just Dance for the Wii . I reckon this will be a fun way of getting a bit fitter & will amuse DD as well :D

What a terrible ending to Spooks :( Ros is so cool
