    so you have individual letterboxes?
    lockable?
    if not then i think you should shunt the onus on the housing association to either;
fit individual mailboxes on the enterance
or seal the main letterbox and fit letterboxes to the stair doors along with a method of entry for the postie

No sadly it's just the one letterbox on the front door.

I was just discussing this with my OH. If I could get my neighbour involved who's still in dispute with RM over a lost item RM insisted they delivered. As my landlord I'm sure they have some sort of responsibility.

Is Lovefilm allowed to charge you for disks that don't arrive? I know they can cancel an account if the things get nicked too often - but charging you for them seems harsh.

its a tricky one.ive seen various solutions for letterboxes in similar properties
i know its not the answer but you may with to consider collecting the mail from your local office while pushing the LL to sort out a secure option

Could you not ask one of your nice neighbours to collect your post for you when the postie has been to save the tealeafes getting it?

I don't have that sort of neighbours, even the next door lot tried to steal a painting I had delivered.
My other neighbours are hardly here, and the other one is frightened of her own shadow and won't open the door when she's alone, so I don't like to bother her, not sure what she's been through.

I work from home so I'm always here when the postie comes, I just didn't get to the mail first.

I know it sounds like I live on ASBO street, it's not. I just happen to have the worse family on the street as my downstairs neighbours.

so youve got a flat, in a conversion, from a housing association.
but they havnt provided proper letterboxes for the tenants?

i would ring them up & ask them when they will be fitting them.
your paying rent to them for a residence, not a houseshare. i would say that means you have your own front door, & therefore your own letterbox.

    Never thought of that.

I'm now wondering what the legal stand point is on this, I'll have to investigate more.

My housing association fitted an intercom system for all the flats not long ago which would be great if I lived in a tower block but seeing as it's just a large house seemed like a waste of money. I'd of preferred my own mailbox.

Some interesting points have been made.

if you have an entry system then they have done the expensive bit
now they can fit the 5 letterboxes and you can buzz the postie in

I cant imagine it being the Postman, it sounds more likely to be one of the shared tenants. Assuming you have a regular postman, it might be a good idea to ask him if he will ring your buzzer with your mail, explaining that someone is stealing your mail.
