There's really no reason for people to starve.
Home bargains, Poundland, your local fruit and veg market and butchers and bakers have bargains in to.;)
I have only been in a lidl once and that was many years ago (it is only 6 miles from where I live). My impression then was it didn't have a lot of choice. This has obviously changed. There is one being built near me just up the road from my large Tesco. I have just looked at Trikers link and will definately pay it a visit when it's built this side of christmas. I have bookmarked this link for future reference.
I have just come back from Asda, I must admit it felt strange not using coupons. I did get some bargains so that helped.
2 months ago I noticed on Martin's home page that Virgin credit card was allowing people to transfer balances at 0% and interest free for 16 months. I applied and was accepted. I wouldn't have known about this offer if MSE wasn't there to help us save money.0 -
I phoned CS main number before going to Tesco in Wells, Somerset.
I said I understood certain shops were on a trial of no moc unless buying.
She then "checked" a list of shops and said Wells was fine and still taking coupons, so it sounds like there are just certain shops on the ban at present if anyone could get the list of shops that would be good to know.0 -

Or hire a mini bus to take us all to Wells:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:0 -
Hi all
My mother visited my local T's today and although there is no signs anywhere saying there has been any change to the policy, my mother asked at CS's and they told her they were doing a trial and at the moment only taking coupons if you buy the product.
I hope everyone is feeling a little better this afternoon after last nights shock!

Bit of a long post coming up so make yourselves a brew
I think that the biggest problem of fraudulant use seems to have arisen because of the ease of copying/altering/multiple printing of internet coupons. We have heard tales on the boards, of sites and programmes that can alter barcodes and of internet coupon values being increased. We have also heard of people applying for multiple internet coupons in the names of Micky Mouse etc. I can see that if Tesco do allow the use of coupons again, they may not be so favourable towards the internet coupon.
Multiple Printing
As has already been suggested on an earlier thread, one solution may be to only accept named internet vouchers when used in conjunction with a matching named Clubcard. This way, any fraudulant use should be able to be identified (I think it would be unlikely that people using their Clubcard would intentionally use their coupons fraudulantly).
Copying
If all internet coupons had unique barcodes on them and Tesco's tills could be adapted in some way to recognise a duplicate, this may stop it.
Altering
I don't know how sophisticated the software is for this, but couldn't something be put on the internet coupons (like they have with banknotes - after all it is the equivilent of cash) to make it more difficult to alter the coupon in any way.
Other
Out of Date Coupons - Again, could the tills be adapted to recognise in/out of date coupons - do they already have this facility regarding credit cards?
These are just a few of my 'ponderings' as I really would like to see the coupon policy re-instated, although I can understand their reluctance to accept the internet ones. I think if they had taken the stance - No valid Clubcard, No Coupons - earlier, there may not have been the level of abuse we have seen.
It would be nice if they would again accept non-internet branded coupons. My local store was just about coming round to the idea of accepting manufacturers coupons without sending for the Duty Manager everytime I produced one.
At the end of the day, it will all be down to whether it is cost effective for Tesco to take them. I am happy to have been able to make use of their coupon facility up to now and have bought additional items I perhaps would not normally have bought (now, where did I put that squeaky latex chicken?) however, having been to ASDA earlier, I found I did actually spend less as I only bought the items I actually needed and they were cheaper (apart from a book, which I will return
). The only downside was that it was sooooooooo busy but even so my total shop time was a lot less as I didn't have any coupons that needed checking by checkout op, supervisor, manager, duty manager and the elderly gentleman who just happened to be passing!
Thank you for listening, you've been a great audience.:A:A0 -

Welshwoofs wrote: »You know, a lot of the bitterness and abusive comments about this site's owner in this thread does not make for attractive reading and imo is rather against the spirit of MSE. It is a fantastic resource, not just for people looking for discounts and freebies, but also for people desperately seeking advice about a whole range of things from house buying to benefits and beyond. But do people really expect to have their cake and eat it? You want this lovely free resource, undoubtedly the biggest site of its kind in the UK, and have the owner keep quiet about all the tips and tricks so that a select few alone can profit? Get real ;-)
The way I see it, yes this site belongs to Martin Lewis, but who does all the posting? Who finds all the answers, who does the reseached? The answers are the all the members. Martin is here to pick up what is good and what is not to let the general public know. Without the feedback from the general members this site or any other sites will not survive. The more new members on any free sites have, the more £££ they will generate.
I thought I'd point out a few things. Firstly, this site is massive and has no advertising. BUT:- LINKS THAT HELP THIS SITE
How this site is funded. Two types of contacts are listed. The first, which all have a * within the main body of the articles, help MoneySavingExpert.com stay ad-free and free to use, as they're ‘affiliated links' which invisibly take you usually via affiliate linkage or commercial money sites, which then pay this site.
Instead of biting the hand that's fed you by hurling abuse about the owner of the site you are using for free, how about just being thankful that for so long you were able to take advantage of a loophole - yes provided by the general members
If you are going to be angry, be angry at :mad::mad::mad:
SD :- its my opinion with regards to Welshwoofs saying we lots are abusive/etc.
