Yep I just phoned my local T in Chippenham to see if they will take internet coupons as they take whatever legitimate MOC's you give them without a fuss and they have told me as from 3pm yesterday, there is a nationwide ban on MOC's unless you have bought the product the MOC is for.:o0

I think there were many reasons for this policy change:
1. media coverage as stated in the last few weeks as stated
2. people buying £80 shops for pennies
3. fraud - photocopies of coupons
4. people registering at websites under different names and printing/ordering the same coupons
5. each family member individually coming to shop in Tesco's by coupons
6. tesco staff abusing coupon spends between themselves
7. multiple shops by the same people on the same day
8. criminal gangs operating at Tesco's stores
9. Manufacturer power (magazine companies, king of shaves, dishwasher tablets etc suffering big time) / legal implications as a result
10. Tesco's not getting paid by certain manufacterers
I think all these were factors in the policy changing .... but it may only be for 4 weeks from what I have read here!
Best to shop elsewhere!
Vote with your money.
Shop in aldi's, Lidl, Home and Bargains etc - their prices are far cheaper than Tesco's to begin with! Morrisons also have so many offers on - you will be surprised. Buying what is actually necesary rather than luxurious spends (paid previously by coupons) will I'm sure help everybody!0 -
His voice is strong and loud in the money saving world, and would not have intentionally damaged policies, and is likely to want to mediate with Tesco, to re-instate a money-saving-policy, if he, or his team, sees a way
You are forgetting that Tesco didn't take coupons as cash out of some altruistic motive.
It's a great profit maker for them. (They make a lot more by taking coupons as cash, customers buy more expensive products when they are paying with coupons, there is no staff "pilferage", the coupons are worth more than their face value due to the handling fee that is added, there are no bank charges for card transactions, cash counting etc).
Tesco get reimbursed for the coupons by the supplier. Buried in the conditions of being a supplier is a clause that Tesco won't "police" coupons at the tills to ensure the conditions are met unless the supplier issues "Tesco specific" coupons meaning customers must use the coupons only at Tesco. Should Tesco not get reimbursed for the coupons via normal channels, their suppliers contract allows them to deduct coupons taken from the suppliers payments.
Up till now, Tesco have had the upper hand over this as it's a buyers market, and suppliers cannot really afford to fall out with them, and at the end of the day the supplier has agreed to the clause in the contract.
But because of the nationwide publicity, things have changed, and suppliers' solicitors have been able to use this now open knowledge of what has been going on quietly for years to put pressure on Tesco regarding their contract and clear abuse they have been subjecting their suppliers to all this time.
The publicity has caused an upsurge of coupons being used and Tesco now have cold feet that they are no longer going to be able to treat suppliers in the previous cavalier fashion and just deduct the value of coupons handed in off their bills without normal proof the coupon has been used properly and the product bought.0 -
If I was Tesco's competitor, then I would take this opportunity to revise my coupon policy to accept multiple coupons (based on the lessons learnt from Tescos - perhaps a capped number or a % based) - this would draw in new customers from Tesco's!
Other Supermarkets need to be more competitive - if Tesco's had such competition then it would be good for all concerned. I think nobody else has challenged them in this area of coupons!0 -
well said mad..a couple on here that have been bemoaning the demise of the policy have been previously premoting coupons that were a no-no...yes they know who they are...
purlease ..it hardly Martins fault that abuserS have been going in to store with fistfuls of mag and pedigree chump mocs is it!
If the manager did not stop this he was either incompetent at best or colluding with it at worst and I personally think it is that sort of abuse that has stopped coupon acceptance not Martin Lewis revealing what was an open secret anyway - although once it was out there on TV the manufacturers had a good case for putting pressure on T but let's not forget no amount of pressure stopped them before and they were even happy enough to decide on a National Policy allowing people to pay for their whole shop with coupons but this was when they knew they were able to claim the money back before abuse/copying/scanning got widespread and spoiled it for honest couponnersI am not a beige person:D0 -
