Congratulations! Some really good running going on at the moment

Haile Gebresalassie Puts His Neck On The Line Again
You've got to give it to this guy, the only limits he believes in are the ones he sets himself.
Bearing in mind that people have been saying (completely wrongly:rolleyes:) that Paula may be getting a bit long in the tooth after Sunday's effort, Geb is 8 months older and is already the longest serving athlete at elite level in the history of the sport with his 26 world records.
So time to put his feet up? Not a chance! He has just committed to the Dubai Marathon on Jan 22nd for which he is being paid $250,000. But he wont be happy unless he walks away with the extra $1,000,000 for the world record.
I wouldnt bet against it considering his last 4 marathons have been:
2:04:26 (WR)
2:04:53
2:03:59 (WR)
2:05:29 (In an absolute downpour in Dubai this year)
Cant wait to see this next attempt.....:D
He doesnt give much away, but this quote is interesting:
“I will do 30-35km maximum road training per day split into morning and afternoon runs. I will also work in the gym – treadmill, cycling, exercising – for around three hours minimum once a week. By the time I start the Dubai Marathon I will weigh 58kg. By the time I finish, I will weigh 54kg.”
So he weighs just about 9 stone and is 5' 5" tall.
and..
“For the three months leading up to Dubai, I start slowly with a number of long runs. I will then do a month of speed training and by December everything has to be ready. I will do a number of speed “tests,” these are very important to gauge how well I am running and what I still need to do to be absolutely ready for a world record attempt."

Soggy race blog
Forgive me lord for i have sinned in not blogging for a while.
Having aggrevated my knee issue doing Langdale marathon and then the downhill start of Loch Ness not helping the 'healing' process i had a 10 day period with zero runing to give it time to settle down. Did bike to work one sunday though so will et around to fixing the brakes and using that more i thik.
Did a 6 mile run on a flat route to test the knee and things were fine. Pity i was off work for a week soon afterwards with, if you believe a certain NHS website, swine flu. May or may not of been correct but if they wont test me i wont admit to having had itProbably was though as i dont suffer that long normally. Then naturally the laptop gets its own virus which i have fixed now.
Couple of 5 mile runs last week which where a bit of a struggle prior to sundays race. Derwentwater 10 mile ad its 50th anniversary.
Naturally friday and saturday evening plus overnight were wet wet and more wet. This off course means the road is gona be a little wet in places. Set off at a comfortable pace for the first mile or so but as it wasn't overly fast i decided to not bother going fast and dropped to a more lesiurely long run pace for the rest of the race.
One or two patches of flooded road along Borrowdale road, several thundering waterfalls coming off the side of the fells too. Crossed the bridge to come back the over side of Derwentwater and on the climb up to cat bells several of the twistier sections of road were flooded too. Knee deep in places in some of them in fact.
Owing to a distinct lack of runing i wasn't at peak fitness so was power walking up the hills mostly. Zipped down the downhills to a certain extent too but wasn't really pushing it like i usually do over the last few miles in this race. No need to knacker myself out got Lancaster half this sunday where there is the slim chance of a PB but i doubt it.
Finished in 1:39:13 which was't too bad and was under 10 min miling which is all i was after.Debt free Nerd number 1122 LBM Jan 2009 Debt @ LBM £40,086.88 (14/01/09)

Hi all,
Haven't had time to catch up on all the posts, but wanted to check in. Had a great curry last night, but it meant I had to abort my morning run after about 2 miles to avoid doing a Paula. Too much information?! I'll have another pop when I get back to the hotel later.
Being on expenses isn't good for the waistline, especially in the US. You should see the portion sizes! I'm not having starters and I still fail to finish my meal most of the time. As a colleague over here put it: "portion control sucks here, no wonder half of us are a fat mess".
Watched some of the NY marathon on Sunday, just by Central Park before meeting some friends for lunch. Was funny to see a NY cop calmly holding back people, until the American runner went past, when he started shouting and pumping both fists! You can kind of understand it, the first American to win since 1982. I couldn't decide if he was a running fan or just generally patriotic. The American had "USA" on his shirt, which I'm sure helped him get some support!
Anyway, I fly back Friday evening, landing Saturday morning. It's been a good trip, but I also can't wait to get back home to my wife! :kisses2:
Hope you're all doing well,

Well, I'm actually in Connecticut, which is far less exciting. But it's only 1 hour into Grand Central by train, so I went there for the weekend to stay with a friend. The weekend was absolutely crazy, BTW. I had no idea how big a celebration Halloween is over here, even for grown ups!
You're right about burning it off when I get back! 2 weeks and I'm climbing the walls, is there something wrong with me?!:rotfl:Running Club targets 20105KM - 21:00 21:55 (59.19%)10KM - 44:00 --:-- (0%)Half-Marathon - 1:45:00 HIT! 1:43:08 (57.84%)Marathon - 3:45:00 --:-- (0%)0 -

This morning's run was hard work and I want to know who broke into my house, stole my tigger legs and stitched lead weights into my running shoes????I woke up with a sore throat and feeling full of cold but as my chest felt fine I decided to run. Turns out it was the best thing I could have done because I feel better now than I have done for days.
I'm chuffed with the new WAVA Rich and will definitely be looking to run a Parkrun after the Gosport Half (and before I get too tired from the marathon training) - I want to try a 5k in the daylight!!
beer tins - two weeks? No wonder you're climbing the walls.
