Well done on comp win JJ, good luck with your training.

wiifit was fun, some good yoga and muscle exercises but I don't have very good balance! dd was great at the yoga and liked the jogging.

Off to bed soon once I've written my teaching plan for tomorrow! :-(

Well I've got to say it was quite exciting and slightly daunting setting out on day one of an almost six month long training plan! Happy with the run though, 3 miles in 27:05 so not quite as fast as i was aiming for but not far off. Know I could have pushed myself a bit more at times too, my mind wandered a couple of times and when I shook myself into concentrating again I know I'd slowed down. Most importantly though, I think, I know what 9 min miles feel like now (it's been a while since I've run that fast) so feel a bit more confident about pacing myself for these tempo runs. Gotta say the legs can really feel it though and I'm sure tomorrow's recovery run will be SLOW!

Hey Becky, you can run it with me, I won't be racing it either! I'm doing it as I don't have the discipline to go for a long run on my own! :o And if you try to duck out early I'll drag you back into the race. ;)

:eek::eek: Forgot you were doing it too :o:D:D, I'm aiming for about 2:10 as a decent training run so you can keep me on course :D

Some good running there Red - it'll take a while to settle down anyway so dont push too hard just yet - I find I zone out now on intervals - it wont effect your speed too much so just relax and enjoy :D

Thanks Becky. Wasn't too achy this morning, muscles just a bit tight. Had a few things to do on the way to work, so decided to jog my way round - was very slow but it's definitely helped to loosen everything up. Had to use nasty showers at work though.. brrr

Going back to Sunday's New York Marathon I am mightily impressed with the 2:49:09 run by Joan Benoit to finish 17th woman and 1st in age group!

For those who dont know who she is; Joan Benoit was the first ever Olympic Marathon winner 25 years ago (women had not been allowed to run further than 1500 metres before that!!) and won her first marathon in Boston in 1979...30 years ago!!!!!

She was also the female winner in Chicago in the year in which Steve Jones broke the world record.

Interestingly, she acted as Lance Armstrong's pacemaker when he ran his first marathon in 2006 and then she went on to break the US 50+ record in last year's Olympic trials running 2:49:08. Now come on, Simply, even you cant beat that for consistency....two consecutive marathons within a second of each other!:p

She has written two books, Running Tide and Running For Women....may be worth a read!

Edit: Also, considering the time span since she started running, it is impressive that she has never run slower than 3 hours (she has run at least 22 marathons) and has never dropped out of a race at any distance.
    Gt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j
    Blackpool Marathon 11/4/2010 (Target=2:59:59) (6:52/mile)
    Abingdon Marathon 17/10/2010, (Target=2:48:57) (6:27/mile)

  • Thanks guys! It's motivating just getting back on here and reading what you're all up to. Gym yesterday, pushed some weights, did really well! Cycled to work and back, gym and back. So, built in some exercise, and I'll run tonight.

The last couple of days, I'll just do short easy runs to keep my feet in!

After all, I know I can do 10k and if I don't improve on last time, it's better to have got the mileage in anyway.

I guess Ukevas is already out in Athens, I don't go until Friday.

  • Another run today - 6 miles in 58:57 (9:48/mile). Slightly less variation between fastest and slowest today, with fastest coming later in the run again. Pleased to get the miles in. For now I am happy to keep the mileage around 20 a week I think; keeps a training base, and some toning etc., with the ability to step it up for the next race. When I've worked out what and when that will be :o

Aiming for another 6 on Thursday, but might not fit anything major into the weekend due to jollies :D

    Weekly total = 12.1 miles.

Pleased you feel better about things bj :)

Thanks for the pics Simply - OH response "cool" (man of many words! :rotfl:).

Aside from the skeleton on them evab, those t-shirts could have been useful as not too bad quality long sleeve t-shirt. As it was they made things a little warm given they were cotton not wicking.
