Alias - there's some debate about whether charities are allowed to sell places on ebay - you've got to wonder if they've really got a place - you can search for the charity in the Virgin database here:
http://www.realbuzz.com/charity-listings/virgin-london-marathon/
But at the end of the day - its not worth it - I did it last year and raising money when I didnt really care about the charity was a right pain in the posterior and it totally peed me off and honestly the race was the loneliest thing I've ever done - it was rubbish!0 -
Oh and on the gels etc - the only time you are likely to run out of energy is during a marathon so called 'hitting the wall', then you can if you want take gels to possibly prevent that happening (although its not proven and when to take them is difficult), any other races you do not need any extra energy - the body can fuel itself for 20 miles of running (more if trained properly to do so - note the elites dont use gels even in marathons).
If you are tiring at the end of races (I know I do) its because you are running at a pace that your body is not adujusted to running that distance at - part of good racing technique is to tread the fine line between pushing yourself and overdoing it0 -
Becky, we've given up on the London marathon idea, thats unless i can get a normal place etc.
Having a look around, unsure if i want to push to 26miles, or stay at 13.1 miles for a year or so.0 -
Tbh Alias... 1/2 marathon is a great distance and apart form proveing the point that I can do the full I would race on only 1/2 till the cows come home.. yes its tagged with 1/2 but i bet not half of the people could run one
..
So the Run home from Uni last night was very good first time had Zero pain in the knee for a few weeks.. just got my ally pally 10m this afternoon then the 22m on sunday... its so long im running to outside the m25 and back... oh the freshair will hit me... then after that most of the work is done still a full program next week but nothing will be pushing the boat out to try and avoide any last min injurys..
Turns out Cab 10m is clashing with Feild work at the moment.. the Run or Work might have to give way.... Cough cough im feeling ill just thinking about it....;)Cabbage Patch 09 - 10m - 1hr 06mLeicester 09 -1/2 - 1h 26m0 -
I havent had such a good chuckle to start the day off for a while - the concept of a charity blacklist is brilliant!:rotfl:
This person only raised £500 for charity XYZ in 2009 when he was supposed to raise £1500, blacklist him because he's obviously a rogue and a vagabond and probably has an ASBO to his name!!!!!:p
Fantastic stuff!
Now if I really wanted a VLM place I would have no qualms about signing up for a charity and just sending them £400 after the event to refund what they paid for it. But it just isnt worth it, its only a race !!!!!! and the worst race you could choose if you're any slower than 3:30 tbh - see the rejection letter as a lucky escape from a fairly dismal experience.
It was only this year, which is the first time I've spectated at various points around the course, that I could really understand what its like running in the 'pinch point' of the field, generally accepted as 4-5 hours, and it wasnt pretty.
Running a marathon is hard enough, no point in making it even harder by constantly having to chop your stride and avoid people stopping or changing direction, swerving to avoid loo queues (loo queues !!!!!! mid race, now there's a weird concept!).
Enjoy the more sensible races instead, at least until you can get ahead of the mob, say sub 3:30, so that you can have a free flowing run and sail through the finishing area.
You would think some people had lost a relative the way they react to their 'rejection':p.Gt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

Simply - Yes, you can start to get 'officially' excited now.:p Only 16 Days to go, time for a bit of nerve tingling. Is it looking like 20 miles or 26.2 as the likely outcome at the moment?
KYCU - Well done on the 11.5 miles, it sounds like you approached it well and got your just rewards.:DGt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

Oi you two, I am here you know
How come that two people who have never met me know me so well?? :rotfl::rotfl:
Am I likely to run it intending to stop at 20 miles? Not in this lifetime. The only thing that will stop me is if I get injured, run over or crushed by a pantomime horse.2021 MFW No.18 £9900/£10,000Mortgage at 21.07.20 £178,999 Mortgage today £150,8910
