Hi Lurkio,
I am certainly no expert, but from experience....it depends on the pain. Some is injury pain, and that means easing off....I have left it for up to three weeks if its an injury.
The other pain is just a kind of muscle tiredness. With that, you find if you take it easy over the first 5 minutes then the run should be fine.
The most important thing I found was stretching properly AT THE END. At least 30 seconds per stretch. Without fail. That kept me in good condition.
Then , its a case of time...and committment. But if you put in the time, you WILL improve. Funny enough, my first Park Run was at 26.20 and I think my best is around 24.50....so on a flat course you would be pretty close!:D
Dont get disheartened if you miss one or two out , but three a week should be ok.
Also, a weekend longer run might be beneficial. Once you start pushing on towards 6miles plus, then those Park Runs get easier.!
Good Luck.....and check the diary, and book in those runs!Sealed Pot Challenge 2013: No 1898

Thanks for that!
It is general muscle tiredness. I do walk for a few minutes afterwards, but maybe need to stretch a bit.....
I set the alarm for Saturday, but didn't turn the volume up, so I missed it- but I generally try to get down there.
Current thinking is to do a normal run Mon/Tues, a slow longer run Wed/Thur and the parkrun Sat. Gives me a chance of recovery
My current pb is 13 seconds below yours (my 2nd parkrun, nearly 2 years ago) - I'm aiming to beat that by the end of this month.. that's only 3 runs
Thanks for the advice - like I say, I know nothing about the science of it. I just run my distance as often as my body lets me :rotfl:Neigh, neigh, and thrice neigh

Lurkio,
The stretching really made the difference with me. Says me carrying a bit of an injury at the moment.
I will look out to see how you get on....if you beat my Park Run time....!after London I am hoping to get back to one of the Park Runs, but not sure which one yet as I have moived since last year. I will probably try Brighton.
Have you any plans to try a race anytime?Sealed Pot Challenge 2013: No 1898

Thanks for the tip. I'll give it a go.
Best of luck with the marathon! I couldn't even contemplate that kind of distance and I take my hat off to anyone that does
Haven't any plans to race. Maybe that should be next thing for me.... I like the idea of the 'Beat the Baton' thing in Battersea park (I think). Maybe I will look into that... I am the world's worst sponsee (?), as I hate asking people for money
You've got me thinking about it now.... :rotfl: I really should do it, then I'll have something to aim for.Neigh, neigh, and thrice neigh

I am running daily now but only 1.5mile one way to work and same back. I am taking it very slowly and relaxed so don't seem to need the recovery time.
However planning on doing 4 miles on Sunday so might just take the bus on Monday especially as DD is then back to school so I am back using P&R and the distance from there is 2.5m one way "Everything will be alright in the end. If it's not alright, it's not the end."

Lurkio,
Why not look for a nice 10k on runners world? Or be adventerous and book up to a half in the autumn. I booked up about 6 months before my first one and was fine, having run about 4 miles 3 times a week prior to starting my training.
Its great fun planning races, and it can get addictive...although my time has been taken up with the marathon. I am looking to touring about a bit doing halfs, a much more civilised distance!Sealed Pot Challenge 2013: No 1898

Marru,
I like the idea, its always good plannning different routes, and ways to combine life and running. I used to love commuting running when i could, but i live 45 miles from work now so i might struggle!Sealed Pot Challenge 2013: No 1898
