Sorry to hear you're not feeling so great smetf - I've had a bit of the same over the last few weeks. My blood test results came back yesterday and were all ok (so that's good) - my next step is to look at my diet I think. Don't tell Rich though or he'll have me eating liver ;)

Todays 6.13 miles wasn't to bad, a few aches in the quads on the hills but overall good enough. Only took 63 mins too which isn't to bad with tired legs

Mascott - not wanting to pee on your parade but if your knee has been bad you shouldnt really be running quickly on the first run back - yes you will feel good and I know how easy it is to push when you are well rested but you do run the risk of aggravating the injury again - a bit slower next time please ;) That said well done on the 'pb'

KMS - glad to hear you are recovering nicely :)

Mascott - Great running for a bloke with dodgy knees!!;) Did you get a little dose of runner's high after that one by any chance?

Simply - Consistent consistency as usual. Now go and get some liver eaten!;)

Evab - Sounds like you enjoyed that and looks pretty swift for a hilly run, especially if theres a bit to come off the time for stoppages.

    Idio - Where've you been?

UK - Nighttime is for sleeping not riding bikes.....:p

KMS - It looks like you've been getting plenty protein with that rate of recovery.:D

A nice summary from Charlie Spedding on the decline in standards:

"There's not one straightforward, simple answer," Spedding says. "There are several factors, one being one that is often discussed outside of athletics, about children not being anywhere near as active as they were 40 or 50 years ago.

Also, when I was at school and got interested in running, I joined the local club and went along to the local road races and was amazed at how fast and fit the men were and I wanted to be like that. Teenagers in the same situation now see people running the big road races either in fancy dress or they're trying to lose weight, and it's just not seen as a serious sport. It's just not seen as a cool thing for teenagers to be involved in. And I think that's a major problem."

Certainly, while the number of fun runners in British road races continues to boom, the numbers of high-class – let alone world-class – male British distance runners is in steep decline. In 1984, there were 75 sub-2hr 20min British marathon runners. In 2009, there are just five. The fastest is Andi Jones with 2hr 15min 20sec, good enough for 321st place in the world rankings, behind 169 Kenyans.

"That's not just a good year and a bad year," Spedding says. "That is a complete change in the sport. I think it'll be quite embarrassing come the 2012 Olympics to not have any British competitors in the men's distance-running events.

    Hello
Well last night's running club was much better, we did a hill repeats session and the regulars commented on how much I've improved on hills, not speed but just the fact that I can keep going rather than stopping for breaks! :)

    We're doing a 6.5 mile run tomorrow night :T

It's easy to give in to that negative voice that chants "cant do it" BUT we lift each other up.
We dont count all the runners ahead of us & feel intimidated.
Instead we look back proudly at our journey, our personal struggle & determination & remember that there are those that never even attempt to reach the starting line.

I will once I get my new running shoes, I think mine are shot now, I've had them since last April and done lots of running in them.

No wonder you're going well....you've worn your shoes down to racing shoes!!:p:p

Obviously you're a fan of the minimalist approach currently becoming more popular amongst the fast boys and girls!:D
