I'm 354 and Phil (hubby) is 353 - totally random uninteresting numbers, nice chip bands though!
  • Morning all - some great weekend running there! And welcome aboard Glaw :)

I think you could say I was pretty pleased with last week, my fastest ever run on Wednesday and my longest ever on Sunday! :j (except jumping like that would hurt a little bit today!)

    10 miles - 1:50:01 (11:00 min/ mile)

Didn't really feel like I was doing 2 more miles than last weekend, I did struggle a few times mainly because it was so bloomin' cold, but generally felt OK. Six weeks to the Kilomathon and it feels achievable now :)

It always feels great to go into new territory so well done Red!!:T

So what are your plans re long runs between now and the race? With 6 weeks to go, 2 of which will be tapering as far as distance goes, the next 4 weeks will be crucial in bridging that 6.xx mile gap.

If you felt generally okay yesterday it may be worth really going for it in the next 2 weeks, knowing that you will be giving your body time to recover and adapt from the shock before the actual race?

Thanks for the congrats, all! Yes, I'm pleased with the new PB. I wasn't happy going round, I just felt a bit uncomfortable, but in hindsight this was a much more competitive week and I was hanging around with some faster runners. I didn't think I'd done very well, but in reality I was pushing harder than I realised. There are quite a few runners just ahead or just behind me, which tells a story. A bit of competition certainly seems to help the times.

Sunday was a slow 12 miler, as per Dr. rich's recommendation. Doing a slow 4 miler at lunchtime. Tomorrow I'm playing 5-a-side so no run. Then the plan is to run to work (9 miles) on Wednesday (marathon pace) and Thursday (easy) before having 3 days off on a long weekend away.

So, is it OK to wait for the 14th to do my 16 miler? Or should I try to squeeze it in sooner?

Good running all. And welcome, glaw5.

Sooner if you can! Maybe set off early and turn the Tuesday 9th run into a 16 miler?

It all depends on whether you think that you can avoid falling asleep at your desk afterwards?:p

P.S. Just as well I knocked out a new PB, becky was within 4 seconds of beating mine  I somehow think she'll crack 22mins before I do 21, though! Maybe I'll need to get myself some of these racing shoes!

    Careful!!

After Saturday's 5K PB the first thing I said to her was that I wanted a pair of those racing shoes...........she was not particularly pleased that I was giving the credit to the shoes rather than the runner standing in them. Whoops!!:p:p:o

Thanks Rich. I was planning long runs of 12, 14, 16, 16, 12 - do you think it would be better to try to push the distance more in the next couple of weeks and do less in the 2 weeks before the race?

Yep, that doesnt look too bad but I think you need more than 2 weeks for a new stress on the body to bed down.

So, without being too prescriptive because its only you that knows what you can handle, its probably better to push further earlier even if you are going to be pretty much at the end of your resources and then ease off in those last 2 weeks with probably 8, 8 at most to allow the muscles to strengthen up and reuvenate......

I think that by doing the sequence you have outlined you could leave yourself in a trough of tiredness come race day.

Just my thoughts though as these things are often trial and error.....
