Had a rest day yesterday too - but did have a good walk in the evening. Was thinking this morning it would be interesting to try a flat run/ race somewhere, see if the fact pretty much everywhere I run is quite hilly would translate into being faster on the flat - or if it would just feel weird!Debt@16.12.09 £10,362.38, now debt free as of 29.02.2012."I cannot make my days longer so I strive to make them better."0

Red- It sounds as though it should be a lot easier to run on the flat but training on hills for a flat race is tough.
Your legs are just not trained to knock out mile after mile of constant flat gradient which results in stress in the calves relatively early in the race.
Thats why I now alternate long runs between hilly (for strength) and completely flat (to simulate race conditions).Gt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

I train on both and while there are differences I dont find its worth as much as you think in race conditions...maybe 1:30 off Sundays time and 10 or seconds off Saturdays time...usually you get the uphill back in the downhill anyway (but not always of course!)
The thing about the flat is - you need to develop an economy to run on it or your pace can drift (again less likely in race conditions!) without you thinking it is...
But then again you should have developed better lungs from training on hills all the time so yes you may be able to race on the flat quite easily
