I wouldnt be too concerned - the majority of clubs have been in administration at least once (something like 65 league clubs I believe).

The lesson to be learnt is never to lend money to, or be a creditor of, a league football club.:(

Anyway, looking at the likely Blackpool course.....it looks pretty ideal for a 1st marathon. You are furthest from home at 16 miles, the only way to get back is to run.

The nice thing about this course is that you can see the finish all the way from that point when you set off back from Fleetwood Golf Club........you just keep your eye on the pokey up tower thingy.:p

Indeed. We have been in administration before not that long ago. I think we may face more than 10 points deduction as a result and probable relegation. Still, as long as the football club survives...

Good info there about Blackpool. The only thing that concerns me is seeing all the relieved people finish at 13.1 miles and having to go around again myself! Might be a bit of a challenge mentally.

Well I think they split off before 13 miles due to the loops - so they may well cut back at 7 miles or so while we carry on to 16 ;)

Oh, OK. that will be easier to deal with, then!

I could be wrong...last year I did the half and the finish was literally right next to where people were going off to do another loop! Poor them :(

Indeed, but it wont be as bad as last year.

Then, you ran with the half bods right up to 13 miles. Until that point you felt like you were in a big race then they all peel off in one go and you're on your own. Literally in my case.....I couldnt see anyone behind and the next guy in front was 2-300m up the road. It took some readjusting of mental focus I can tell you.

This year they will turn around at Bispham, at something like 9 miles, and we will carry on up to Fleetwood......so the 9 mile point is the place to expect a dramatic thinning of the field.

So, roughly speaking, you head south down to just past the pleasure beach turning at 3 miles and then return back past the start at 6 miles before taking a 10 mile run up to Fleetwood and returning from roughly were Fleetwood golf club is on the coast.

It really is a 'zone out and get in a rhythm' type course - you can count on there being no crowds at all for that last 20 miles (after the stag/hen louts in the first 6 miles that will be quite a relief)........ (although the OAPs at the coffee shop in Fleetwood might give us a polite clap:p)

I've been on some long walks, I've bought the trainers and have a sports bra thats big enough on order so I just need to start running. How many layers do you wear on these freezing days?

thats alot down to the person Rachel... i was happy in my "winter" running tights and a long sleave top last night. Seeing as the water was turning to ice must have been below 0oC. depends on how much you feel the cold. i would say maybe start with longsleve top under a more wooly top... can allways whip the wool of it need be.. and some joggers for below the waist.. will be fine.

I get hot and always have done so I am happy to run in shorts and vest - although I do have long bottoms and a jacket for warming up in/very slow runs - I think as Uk says its a bit of a trial and error thing sometimes...

At the moment* I'm in leggings (two pairs when it was really cold), t shirt, thin long sleeved top and very lightweight running jacket. Did have a sweatshirt on instead of the long sleeved top the other night but was too hot - you soon warm up! But yep it is trial and error, better to have too much on to start then you can tie it round your waist if you need to.

*Er, obviously I'm not in that at the moment as I'm at work and wearing a much more appropriate skirt and jumper!
