Haha you two :) Yeah I did wonder if I would find it hard as my muscles aren't used to it - it's pretty hard to find a route from either my house or OH's which is flat for any considerable distance! Must admit I do like the hills, they make it interesting... my dad used to do fell running though - that is a bit much

Is there a running track anywhere near?

Its not as hard as you might imagine to do a long run around a track....much easier to zone out and get in a rhythm when theres no traffic, road crossings, pedestrians etc....
    Gt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j
    Blackpool Marathon 11/4/2010 (Target=2:59:59) (6:52/mile)
    Abingdon Marathon 17/10/2010, (Target=2:48:57) (6:27/mile)

Indeed - And theres also another equally top-notch track a few metres away on Woodbourn Road (the track used as the warm-up track for the World Student Games), which will probably be easier to get access to?

Can you just go along and ask to use these places for a couple of hours? Not something I've thought about before - suppose could only ask and see what they say.

According to this, the track is accessible to casual use pretty much all the time but the phone number is there for you to check:

Oh, how I wish my club had Bristol City's problems. Just gone into administration and will have at least 10 points deducted :( I hope I'll still have a club to support next season. Haven't renewed my season ticket, though in case the club goes under and I lose the money.

I wouldnt be too concerned - the majority of clubs have been in administration at least once (something like 65 league clubs I believe).

The lesson to be learnt is never to lend money to, or be a creditor of, a league football club.:(

Anyway, looking at the likely Blackpool course.....it looks pretty ideal for a 1st marathon. You are furthest from home at 16 miles, the only way to get back is to run.

The nice thing about this course is that you can see the finish all the way from that point when you set off back from Fleetwood Golf Club........you just keep your eye on the pokey up tower thingy.:p
