Simply - I notice that the subject of struggling to sleep has been brought up on the RW 'Sub-3' thread. It seems one or two people get this when they increase their overall mileage. These are men so the explanation may be very straightforward.....your body is still getting used to the mileage so is struggling a bit to get the balance right.

It would be interesting to see whether dropping the mileage and/or intensity (as Becky mentioned) would bring sleep patterns back into line?

There are some days when i can barely stay awake after work never mind go for a run. Mainly down to working shifts and switching from a 2:15pm to 11:15pm shift to a 6:45am to 2:45 pm shift the day after as i only have time for about 4 hours kip.

  • I'll pop in there and have a look Rich. It wasn't a problem when I was training for Abingdon, I slept like a log then, perhaps my speedwork is making me over excited. :rotfl:

    Anyone remember this??

Hi everybody, can I come out of lurkdome and join you please?

I followed this thread last year and you inspired me to push myself both mentally and physically. At one point I was managing to run 7 miles in a session, however, since September life has been getting in the way of exercise and I am going to need to start from scratch again.

My short term goal is to run, on the treadmill, a minimum of 3 times a week. My longer term goal is to enter either a 5k or 10k race - OUTSIDE - this year!!! There I've said it now so there's no going back.

I intended to do a 30 minute run/walk session on the treadmill later today so will report back with progress. Wish me luck!

That was a year ago today - so it's my anniversary of joining you all. Looking back I can't believe how nervous I was at running outside. Still I think I achieved my goal - if you'd told me then that I'd run a marathon before the year was out I would never have believed you. :D:D

So ........ at the risk of sounding 'mushy' thank you all for your patience, help and support over the last year. Hmm ...... wonder what I'll be posting this time next year?????

It is quite astonishing isnt it?

But thats exactly why we keep going on about consistency over time. The idea about fretting over the odd day lost here and there, and doing too much too soon, makes little difference when you look at the overall picture of what can be achieved over the span of a full year.

But it also shows why your body might be trying to do a bit of plateauing for a while. Compared to 2 years ago, last year was probably quite a shock to the system.

You'll feel lively again in no time.........:D:D

  • Hi guys, sorry I haven't been around, family stuff, sick 4 month old nephew, out of intensive care now - but scared us all, then I've been sick too. New Year was my hubby's turn! Can only get better!

Gym this evening, weights session - oh grief, can hardly walk now, but need to get back on track, otherwise I'm going to be fat as butter again far too soon!

Oh have a heart for the slowbies, sometimes it's as much as we can do to keep going, without weaving about to get out of your way. That's why I always start my race near the back of the crowd anyway! It's so hard to set your pace if everyone is mowing past you.
  • Nice to see you back Bj!!!:D:D

  • Thanks - you don't want to know this, but my bum aches!
  • I'm following a 1/2 plan that Becky set, but, I downloaded a RW one, out of curiosity, it's just set by running time, 1 hr, 1 hr 20, etc. how does that work? Surely you've to practice covering distances? Gonna stick to Beckys me thinks!

hannah, how are you getting on with the plan?

I'll have to take point. I have to say that during my gap. I found a full night sleep very hard to come by. I would go as far to say that my sleep last night after my first run in a while. Was the best I have had in ages.

I've wondered this myself. Surely the whole running time thing only works if your an average runner otherwise you would never get near the distance like myself (Plodder).

Did 4m last night in 39mins. Lost a bit of fittness I reckon, although if i can maintain that for a further two miles I should be good for my sub 60 at Garstang as two of those miles were up hill. I'm not really sure im going to get anywhere near my 2:08 for blackpool though :( Although I do have a few weeks of training left. My key race for the year will be the sub 2hr for freckleton though.

I didnt get a Mirror place for the GNR so i'm dumped in the general ballot so i'm quietly confident I have saved myself a wad of cash for using on midweek races :D.

Rich : The Garstang 10k is on the 31/1 now.
you seem to have lost my 1/2 on the 21st Feb at Blackpool
