Ha ha ha - I really started something here then!
Thanks guys, as I thought, Steve, you really are trying to bait me about St Johns eh! My daughter actually said once 'why should I help them if they're so stupid'. Already told you of the story where 4 of them stretchered and ran one heart attack case to hospital, couldn't get him to an ambulance, so ran - for all they were worth - he lived. My daughter was throwing up and her colleague feinted with the shock and fright afterwards. Oh, and deaths off site during the week don't count as 'marathon deaths'. hmm.
I'm going to stick to my distance plan, and just hope to shed a bit of weight (purely 'cos I don't want to carry it on my runs!) and speed up a bit this year. Maybe work a bit on sticking to plan, intervals etc. I tend to 'run 'til I drop' and, well, it's not really improving my performance!!!
Great stuff guys!
So, which races should I be doing this year then? I want a 1/2 marathon to aim for. And I'm definitely going back to Portsoy, to nail the 10K that wrecked me, made me cry - and started all this running lark!
My birthday today, 45 - does that put me in a kinder category by any chance?! ha ha!0 -
Oh yes it does
Happy birthday
It puts you in the vets women over 45!!!! So you have to run some more races now to take full advantage0 -
Yippee! I knew there was going to be something positive about getting old! oh yeah, oh yeah!!!0

The most interesting thing about tonight's run was that it showed that Sunday's 20 miler, although on the swiftish side, was certainly not overcooked because for the legs to come back and happily do a session like that 48 hours later is very pleasing!:D:D
Becky - Looks like you've recovered pretty well from your fastest ever 20 miler too!
Bj - No, I wasnt baiting you, simply in total agreement. I think its scandalous how casually/arrogantly a big percentage of VLMers approach the thing as though its just a casual trip around London town.
And, Happy Birthday, I can feel those WAVAs shooting upwards as I type.:DGt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

Yep, I'd be happy enough with a 1:15 warm up and then something like that 1:08 in the actual race to give 2:23 for 20 miles - that would represent a nice 5 minute 'ratchetting up' on last Sunday's run...:DGt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

Hello
Went back to running club last night worried that I'd be a total slug, lagging behind all the others who I was convinced would have been evangelical about running over Christmas.
I was very wrong, looks like no-one had been out for 5 weeks! There was a really good turnout and a choice of a 3 miler or a 4 miler.
I opted for the 4 mile run including a 1.5 mile uphill road and I managed to run the whole thing, no walking at all so i'm really pleased. I don't ache today either so I can't have lost much fitness.
Tomorrow night is a 6 miler so will be building back up.
Feel SO much better for getting back out there, it was perfect for running last night, cold, misty and so refreshing.
...Linda xxIt's easy to give in to that negative voice that chants "cant do it" BUT we lift each other up.
We dont count all the runners ahead of us & feel intimidated.
Instead we look back proudly at our journey, our personal struggle & determination & remember that there are those that never even attempt to reach the starting line.0 -
