The main planning issue I would envisage is the size of the park - the perimeter path is only about 1 mile in length. 3 lap courses are not really advisable because of the, erm how can I put this delicately, lack of courtesy shown by a lot of slower runners to the lead runners. The upside is that the paths are very wide so it may be possible to design something similar to the Leeds course.
I actually think that Peel Park would be better for the Park Run in Bradford

Yep, that sort of thing.
But, despite instructions given at the start, the most puzzling aspect almost every week is how some lapped runners seem to have no concept that if the leader passes them then there may well be one or two more runners following in his wake. But no, spreading out to make passing as difficult as possible seems the way to go.
Hence, courses should be no more than 2 laps otherwise the problems caused by this 'lack of awareness' multiply...........
I dont really get it because if I get lapped, as I did at Sale by the top 3 10 milers in the UK, I am paranoid about not becoming an irritant to people racing flat out at 4:40 miling - it just wouldnt be fair to get in the way.Gt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

Its certainly larger - but rather hilly I would have thought?
Bowling Park may be a possibility also........Gt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

No, there's only 1 steady hill, much flatter than Lister Park! I live just up the road from Peel Park, it's where I used to run when I first started and the paths are very wide.

To be fair I've been lapped a few times at Leeds - and you'd have to be asleep to not hear them coming up the hill (its the end of a 5k lots of panting usually going on
)
Again I can understand missing the first one say if you were deaf - but otherwise there really is no excuse - I always move over to the left as much as I can and usually (if I'm not too out of puff) say 'well done' as they pass - its only polite to recognise their ability at the end of the day0 -
Provided i'm not blocking the way for faster people i wont move over that much, espcially if i am overtaking someone myself. We are all there to race after all so i have as much right to the racing line as anyone else
Even if they are twice as fast as me.
The rules for track ultras (6/12/24 hour races) is that everyone is entitled to be in lane 1 provided they are at race pace. This includes periods of walking too for run walkers. You only move out a lane or two when takign it easy whilst refuelling on the move or just having a easy lap or two. Dont even need to do this if there are only a few people there either tbh.Debt free Nerd number 1122 LBM Jan 2009 Debt @ LBM £40,086.88 (14/01/09)

Simply - I've been having a think - perhaps a week or two off the speedwork would help you feel less tired - the interval sessions especially are very tough on the body...0

Are you mischief making, KMS?:p
And, in any case, if everyone followed the instructions it is the slower runners that get the 'racing line', as such as it is, and the overtakers go the long way round.Gt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

Thanks Becky - I think I'll see how the next couple of weeks go now I've shaken off the sniffles. If I'm still finding that I'm getting tired then I'll cut out the speedwork for a while as you suggest. I don't really want to as the speedwork is my favourite
Re. slow runners and 'getting out of the way' - it's not difficult is it? Even in a marathon you can hear the faster runners grunting up behind you - like Becky I always move out of the way and say 'well done' as they blast past me. After all they quite often take the time to give encouragement too.2021 MFW No.18 £9900/£10,000Mortgage at 21.07.20 £178,999 Mortgage today £150,8910 -
Me mischief make never
Slower runners always have the priorty as the fast people are the ones who can see everything from the back and thus pass safely. After shouting tracking first off course to announce there overtakeDebt free Nerd number 1122 LBM Jan 2009 Debt @ LBM £40,086.88 (14/01/09)
