  • Thanks Becky - I don't have too much confidence in the medical profession when it comes to 'women's issues' I'm afraid and want to avoid the HRT route if I possibly can.

I'm trying out some supplements but was hoping that there might be peeps on here who know someone who has kept running through the menopause and could pass on some tips about how they managed their symptoms.

Kms - sounds like a good run there :)

Rich says he'll do your events list later but he is currently recovering with grapes ;)

You can get cream for that!

It's easy to give in to that negative voice that chants "cant do it" BUT we lift each other up.
We dont count all the runners ahead of us & feel intimidated.
Instead we look back proudly at our journey, our personal struggle & determination & remember that there are those that never even attempt to reach the starting line.

Simply - I was thinking more of the implant or depo or the coil might help manage the symptoms than HRT which I know is short term and not very nice in terms of blood pressure etc, but I'm not sure that a doctor would prescribe the coil for example...

Maybe try RW forums thats where I learned my monthly 'flushes' when running werent unusual ;)

I've tried searching on RW but can't find much on the subject - maybe it's a bit taboo and not meant to be mentioned. :rotfl:

Oh well, it's not the end of the world - I'll just keep plodding away and see what happens. I'll be this thread's guinea pig so I'll be able to dish out loads of helpful advice in the future. :D

Edit ......... ok so I didn't search very well the first time, there's quite a bit of info on RW. I'm off for a read!!!

Great run becky! That must be quite a confidence boost for you!

Simply -I haven't a clue, I'm afraid. I'm not a believer in supplements though, after reading an eye opening book on the subject. If your GP is rubbish, can you try getting an appointment with another one at the practice? Or switch practices if here aren't any others. You may just have had a bad one, but I'm sure there's good ones to be found.

I'm feeling the 12 miler in my legs today. Possibly because I did a lot of DIY related hauling stuff up and down flights of stairs in the afternoon on top of it?! Either way, today will be a rest day or possibly a recovery run this evening. Got to be sensible and let the legs strengthen themselves at their own pace.

rich - thanks for the tip. I will concentrate on building distance as my first priority. I'll avoid doing "flat out" intervals and keep them fast but steady when I do them.

  • Thanks beer tins - I'm with a new practice now so am going to go along for a chat. I found some interesting stuff on RW so will go equipped with lots of new found knowledge.

Good to see you got some cross training in after your 12 miler ;)

Okay I have had a think last night and on my walk in this morning...

I am going to revise my target for Blackpool - so now I have changed my pace targets on my runs to match 3:45 but I have taken out my second tempo run for now (so just doing 2 speed sessions a week) and I am going to try some longer than 22 mile runs...:eek:

Even if I miss 3:45 this extra work should mean that I will go under 4 even if I blow up in the last 6 miles :o

I hope I'm not setting myself up for a fall again ;):o

Morning all, off for a nice 10 mile potter this morning with my running partner.

KMS: thank for the links: Have you done/heard of The UnderRound?
Proud to be dealing with my debt:eek:

TOTAL: £6,437 (04/01/2013) slowly but surely it is decreasing:D
  • To be honest, I see no reason not to.

The training paces have lifted themselves to the point where you have been doing 3:45 training anyway....and there's still 11 weeks to go.

If you miss the target it will still be a huge improvement on the first effort.:D
