I need to convince myself that I can do it all over again - only faster!! How's your training going? Still cycling loads?2021 MFW No.18 £9900/£10,000Mortgage at 21.07.20 £178,999 Mortgage today £150,8910 -
Hi all,
Looks like rich recognised me in the parkrun pics despite the beard (it's only to keep my face warm and is coming off in March!). Yep it was slow, 3 minutes off my best, but then some runners that finished ahead of me where a full 4 minutes off their best, so I didn't feel too bad. As you saw I was wearing trackie bottoms and a fleece (with t-shirt underneath), not because I'm going soft, but because everything else was in the wash/drying!
Did a slow 7 miler today (In my shorts and short sleeved top over long sleeved top). Fairly tough as it was on snowy/icy pavements on hills. Just glad to get out, though. The reason I did 7 was because I did 6 last week and didn't want to break the +10% rule (by much!). But I'm going to have to add 2 miles onto my long runs every week from now, or I'm never going to get to the right distance in time for Blackpool (baring in mind I need to taper). I know it's not ideal, but don't know how else to do it?
I didn't realise we were reporting our "best in age group" results. I was first in age group last week at Bromley. But I wasn't shouting about it because all bar 2 of the 19 runners ahead of me where older!Running Club targets 20105KM - 21:00 21:55 (59.19%)10KM - 44:00 --:-- (0%)Half-Marathon - 1:45:00 HIT! 1:43:08 (57.84%)Marathon - 3:45:00 --:-- (0%)0 -
To be fair KMS was the only one in his age group
I think 2 miles a week is fine BT - its only a rough rule - just be careful you arent loading the mileage elsewhere as well (so dont make the midweek ones too long just yet)
I always wear shorts when racing because I find I am slower if I have material on my knees...however, I did go out and buy some new joggers to keep warm on todays run so I'm not super hard!
Simply - wow hats off to the dedication!!!0 -
Howdy peeps. I'm getting back into the running again now - kilomathon in 9 weeks! Eeeek! Went out with the running club on Thursday, we were training on a track with about 10 inches of snow. It's quite like running on sand! Rested Fri, 30min easy run on Sat, and a 60min easy run on the treadmill at the gym this aftGood wine needs to breathe, if it stops breathing try mouth to mouth.0

Morning all, of for a 10 mile play in the snow so I might be sometime:D and then TKD training tonight (assuming it doesn't snow again and the roads are open). Have a good days running where ever you are.Proud to be dealing with my debt:eek:
TOTAL: £6,437 (04/01/2013) slowly but surely it is decreasing:D0 -
Well done Bagpuss, you did well to stick to the treadmill.
Simply.... I know how you feel, I had to do a three miler on a treadmill and afterwards I felt like I had run a 10k race. And when I got off the bloody machine my legs were all over the place.!
Catspaw, are you back? How was it....
Good luck and take it easy all you runnersSealed Pot Challenge 2013: No 1898

ThanksI'm going to keep all other runs to 5 miles or less, so even if I break the 10% longest run rule, I don't break the 10% weekly one.
Another thing- my rest day is Wednesday and errr, I play football on it! should I really pick a day when I do nothing (except walking to/from station etc.) as my rest day? Even if I include a short run on the morning of "football" days?Running Club targets 20105KM - 21:00 21:55 (59.19%)10KM - 44:00 --:-- (0%)Half-Marathon - 1:45:00 HIT! 1:43:08 (57.84%)Marathon - 3:45:00 --:-- (0%)0 -
Catspaw - 6 hours and counting for a 10 miler! Where do we send the search party?
Well, work has been abandoned for the day and, at the moment, it looks like running will be too. But there's plent of the day left yet, so we'll see..........
Roads are probably as dangerous as I have ever encountered today which is a bit odd considering it is hovering around freezing point compared to -10c and worse last week. It looks like even main roads arent getting gritted, just the Highways Agency roads, ie motorways.
But we just need a couple of degrees temp rise and everything will soon be sorted..............Gt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

BT - Rest days are only ever 'pencilled in'. There is no point in taking a rest day on a particular day if you dont need one just because your training plan says so. Equally, when your body tells you it needs to rest it may well need 2 back to back rest days. Take them, regardless of what you initially planned........as always, the body dictates what actually happens day to day.
Most injuries for newbie VLMers are produced by sticking too rigidly to a training plan when the body is giving conflicting messages.
Equally with the 10% rule for long runs, dont be too worried about pushing it on if you feel up to it. You wont be doing any damage by jumping straight up to 12-14 miles if you feel up to it (obviously easing right back on the pace). Just be prepared to cut it short if your legs are genuinely feeling the strain and arent quite ready for the distance......Gt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j
