    Erm, how about Saturday instead?

Somehow, you hungover racing on ice has all the ingredients for a few 'ouches'.:p

Chick - did you get out in the end last night or was it too icy?? Any news on when your half has been postponed too?

Hi everyone, The half that should have taken place on Sunday 3rd is now re-scheduled for 7th Feb, but I can't run that day as we are away in the Peak District. Sunday's Garstang 10k will now take place on 31st January, which I can do, so fingers crossed there is no snow & ice around then.

I didn't get out last night unfortunately as the ice is really bad. I went to my car this morning and it was reading -11 degrees! I had a bottle of water in the car and it was frozen solid, even inside the car.

I went to the gym today as planned and knocked out an easy 10k whilst watching TV. Oh I hate treadmills with a passion! I'm not sure what I'll do tomorrow. Boot Camp has been cancelled and the forecast is for the temperature to drop to -13 overnight. There is more snow expected over the weekend.

I hate this weather. I just want to run. I have a marathon to prepare for. Doesn't nature understand this?

DH is still sticking with his challenge and has either run at least 3 miles or walked 5 miles every day since 1st Jan. I was pleased to have been running at 6.30am on Tuesday - he was running at 5.30am :eek:

Happy running, walking, sitting or drinking wine runchums :p

Why dont you join us on Saturday morning at Woodbank, Chick? At least you'll get a run in the great outdoors.....

This is their take on the likelihood of running it as of tonight:

As it stands today (07th Jan) the route is runnable. The paths in the park are covered in compacted snow but it is still crunching under foot.
Unless we get severe frost over the next two nights, it is proposed to go ahead with the race. The final decision will be made on Saturday morning but only a very severe frost should see it cancelled.
The alternative (flat) course will be run on.
Trail shoes or fell shoes would be advisable if you've got them and it may even take a short spike. Dont worry of you've only got ordinary road shoes, you will just have to take it slower.

-13c is nowhere near a 'severe frost', merely a bit chilly!:p

Interestingly, Heaton Park and Bramhall have cancelled already, but the other Manchester runs are still aiming to go ahead.

    Also Cancelled Already:

    Sunderland
    Bedfont Lakes
    Reading
    Cardiff
    Banstead is probably off
Roundshaw course should be okay but they're monitoring (if in London this is probably the one I'd choose)

but, heroicly, Basingstoke is going ahead (having met the organiser on xmas day I'm not surprised about this!:p)

Bushy and Milton Keynes are advising that 'it may not be a PB day'. Gorleston have a contingency to move from the cliffs to the beach.

Interestingly, both Glasgow and Edinburgh expect to be ON.

With these things it more comes down to the relative craziness of the race director than the weather....

    Morning :D

You were up late!?! Interesting about the parkruns - I would run on ice anyway but I am also a nutter :p Basingstoke is snowy so they will be fine to run but it will be tough going on the grass - its over a foot apparently

I also couldnt sleep which considering yesterday was my 8th day running in a row is not surprising...going to relish my rest day today :D

Last night - Manchester -18c, Lowest Uk temp -21.2, South Pole -22.9c.

No sunbathing just yet by the looks!

So the choice of parkrun tomorrow may well be a last minute case of 'see who's daft enough'.

8 in a row! Is that a new record? There wont be many people anywhere that have run on all of the last 8 days!

    Morning!

    Good running becky!

I guess Cardiff park run is frozen and icy, most streets around here are, very uneven as well, but seen a few runners braving these conditions and seems they just have normal trainers on.

I'm still not doing any running and haven't had time to go for walks either, been viewing flats, going to move soon I hope, end of February latest.:)

Morning all. Well, no run for me again this morning. Ice is here to stay for a while. BUT, I've brought my running stuff in to work with me so I'll be running around the city at lunchtime!

Am considering where to run this Saturday. Rich said Roundshaw would be one of the best London ones and I tend to agree. The paths in Bromley won't be much fun in this weather. So I think that's what I'll go for. If I can get there, that is!

No wine for me, I'm afraid as I'm off the booze (and caffeine ) for Jan, with the exception of my birthday next week
