Had a nice 4 mile walk to work after I'd showered and eaten too; I could have done with some of those shoes Linda.
Hubby loves these Kahtoola microspikes:
Even in sheet ice they grip perfectly! He's had loads of use out of them because they go over trainers, hiking boots, shoes etc...

We dont count all the runners ahead of us & feel intimidated.
Instead we look back proudly at our journey, our personal struggle & determination & remember that there are those that never even attempt to reach the starting line.0 -
Thanks so much for the info about these trainer gripper thingys. I've just ordered Yaktrax Pros for my son, who has become a mad keen Parkrunner at Richmond - he'll run in snow & ice next Sat unless physically restrained... I just hope these arrive before then!0

Just catching up with all the 2010 posts! Happy New Year to you all  Cold still here
Breathing laboured not running (I swear it is getting worse again) and using lots of inhalers, so haven't braved running, but have done a few couple of mile walks in the sunny/frosty weather. Though now we have nearly a foot of snow outside and it's still snowing... On the plus side I have been looking at upcoming races seeing what would be good, and plan to go for a lunchtime walk in my fell gear
Great racing Simply, rich, becky, and beertins (and subsequent running).
Congrats k_bagpuss - September wedding sounds lovely
Good running Ev, mascott, red, chick, and hi Annie, some good walking going on. Really is a good way to start.
Tete I did something similar to you, though I got a bit fitter, then started running last February, and did a half in September. Perfectly doable taking it slowly, building the mileage as you got, but consistency (which I have none of right now) is the key.

Richmond will be fine as its not tarmac path so even if it is icey you can switch onto the grass verge
Hope it goes well for him
Hope the walking is doing you some good Krider but remember not to push too hard if its on your chest (which it sounds like it is)!0 -

I'm waiting for mine to come too, you watch the snow will have all gone by the time I get em!
Looking forward to trying them out! My hubby reckons they're a poor man's Kahtoola!

It is becky  *grump*. Promise I'm taking it steady though - taking snowy snaps is the plan so will be a slow pace with that involved. Oddly the cold air helps with the sinuses, hence lots of short (1 to 2 miles max) walks have been good on that front as well.0

Hi Krider, I hope you're feeling better soon. Glad you can at least get out for a walk but be careful!0

Hi KYCU - the Garstang 10k has been postponed until 31st January. That works out OK for me TBH, because I couldn't run this weekend due to kids stuff, but I can run on 31st. I entered me and DH into the race last night.
Boot Camp was cancelled this morning, not because of running conditions, but because we have to drive to get there and the roads are treacherous. I am amazed that I was awake at 5.30am to hear the text come through telling us it was off! I'll get out later - it is safer in daylight anyway, and the snow has frozen to a dry, powdery stuff - not slush or icy yet, except where it has been compacted. The running track is closed too so no track session this week.
These spikes look great - just what we need in this weather at the moment.Sealed Pot Challenge #8 £341.90
