Okay no worries - bear in mind its quite a hilly race with your training - you'll prob need to do some hill work as well as the usual flat mileage :D:D

I did the GNR without any hill work.

Its not hilly, just alot of gentle inclines & declines as per a normal dual carriageway.

    Really good atmosphere.

A good video of the course here --> http://news.bbc.co.uk/local/tyne/hi/things_to_do/newsid_8192000/8192869.stm

I did it for charity last year, hard work getting the minimum of £350 out of people.

Enter it, its really good fun...especially when you hit the downhill bit as you come into the sea front, as you know the end is coming. I thought it was further that it was, so i would of put more effort in.

Where do you live? You can try a parkrun (free 5k) to get into the swing of things:

Ah brilliant, there's one about 5 minutes from where I'm sitting now :) Might pop along and lurk one weekend before trying it out! Thank you!

Thanks Alias, make me feel a bit more positive. I won't be doing it for charity as I don't have the sort of personality for getting money from people I don't think :o Just a personal goal.

Ooo defo try a parkrun - me and Rich are doing a tour at the moment :D You can look at the results too from the Saturday before to get an idea (ignore all the super fast people ;))

Alias - I found it hilly but then I live in London so all of my training down here is flat, I was also very unfit when I ran it so found it tougher than it should be I expect. The crowd were good, but I wouldnt do it again as its tres expensive (and I'm a cheapskate!) and too busy for me on the course...

    Mon - 6.3 miles in 62:53 9.59 mins/mile
had thoughts of going out for a bit of a speedy one but a mile in and my thighs/calves seemed to remember Friday's and Saturday's racing plus yesterdays mammoth effort so I kept it slow... had to run off course slightly to find somewhere to pee in the bushes too which was quite amusing in the pitch black ;)

All in all though not too bad - tired but thats to be expected no major niggles so thats good :D

    Week 17/30 (Blackpool)
    Mon4/1 10.0 Miles 1:17:25 (7:44/mile) (Pulse 84)

Had to adjust back to running on ice tonight. It was very similar to the conditions at the Basingstoke parkrun on xmas day, which added 3 minutes to 5K times, but at tonight's training speed it didnt make that much difference to be fair.

Anyway, big positives from that one in that there was very little evidence of a 20 miler yesterday...............so clearly the muscle repair process is working well and, in turn, that must mean that the nutritional intake is pretty good. Then again, I am a glutton so I generally get the nutrients one way or another.:D:D

Becky, hope you didn't scare any wildlife with your detour into the bushes!:p

Thanks Alias, make me feel a bit more positive. I won't be doing it for charity as I don't have the sort of personality for getting money from people I don't think :o Just a personal goal.

    Easier then you think.

First step - Get that place (either way)
Second step - Talk about running it for charity with friends and family. Let is sink in. Once they see you start running training for it. They will offer cash.
Third step - Create a JustGiving webpage, post it up on here all the time, then mass email work.
Fourth - Local Newspaper coverage near the time :)

Trust me, once you can run more than 8-10miles 3 times a week. People will soon start to sponsor you. Get a charity box and put it on your desk at work. Pick a charity thats close to home. The first time i told someone about my charity & what it ment to me, i started to cry. It was well worth it.

I chosen Muscular Dystrophy Campaign, my dad died of it when i was 1. My sister & nieces are carriers, so something very close to me.

Once i told people why i was running it, and who for. They soon sponsored me £3,£4,£5.

Anyway, ill sponsor you £10 right now to get your going....

Where do i send the cash?
