  • Morning all,

Firstly, I find this forum addictive – I find myself reading it every morning and night to catch up on everything – I love it J

Secondly, I received my luckozade runners pack yesterday and did a run of 5 miles last night using everything as directed. It really worked and helped me not ache or feel tired but trying to get to sleep last night was murder!!! I was wide awake for ages!! L
  • Bah, I'm posting this in my lunchbreak. I typed up a long post, got interrupted with a query and my PC timed out so I lost it. I don't have time to type it again before my next meeting so will have to catch up with you all this evening.

I was feeling quite good after Sunday's run Hannah (I won't call it a race because I ran it at my usual 10:something/mile pace) but I seem to be getting slower the more I taper! I'm not sure how that works!! Still I have faith in my training schedule and I'm sure that it'll be fine on the day (she says with crossed fingers, legs and anything else crossable!).

As for the half you've signed up for - it looks like you've definitely caught the running bug :rotfl: Which half will you be racing?
I'm sure you will do just great!
Its the Llanelli Waterside 1/2 Marathon on the 7th March, both my friend & I felt so down and blue after completing the 10k at the end of Sept that we thought we should have the next race signed up ready!

Blakey - I was wide awake too but nothing to do with Lucozade for me!! it was thinking OMG what have I let myself in for!! (glad you had a good run)

BJ - sorry no idea x

keepyouchinup - a minute faster is fab! well done x

    Hi,

I would like to run my local half marathon on 29th November!

I am scared! will i be able to train intime?

I used to do lots of running, but have never run this far?

I did the 5k race for life wihtout practicing & it took me about 45mins!

I am planning on trianing, its hard now because its dark when i leave & return from work.

I have some equipment @ home, excercise bike, rowing machine & treadmill.

what would be my best course of action?

I have someone to train with at weekends, we're going on a run tomorrow & hopefully sunday

    all advice greatly recieved :)

will i be able to do it in time? does anyone have any tips?

We're meeting tomorrow as i have a day off so we're going to the park to do some interval training.

If you ask me with 8 weeks ish to go not much point doing much interval training.... you just need to get your running distance up....

the fact you used to run will help.. but you just got to get out and do the miles outside if you can or on your treadmill if you must...if you can do about 7 miles non stop buy the end of the month.. then up to about 10 - 11m buy the mid of next month you should be fine... wont be easy... but you should get round ok.

Can i run everyday or will this put pressure on my body? i only mean short 30min runs as i dont have alot of time, i thought i could do short morning & then longer run in the evening alternate days?

I agree with UK. Forget about intervals for now. With 8 weeks to go you need to see about just getting round really. Go for a slow, steady run for as far as you can and report back with the distance you manage and we can suggest a training plan for you.

Depending on where you are it may not involve running over race distance during training (which you would normally do for a half marathon). It may also not involve any tapering. Generally, you should be OK adding a mile a week to your longest run (although ideally, it would be 10% longer than you previous longest).

RE: running every day, I would say no. You need rest days for your body to strengthen and for you to benefit from the training. You should also ideally limit your total weekly mileage to about 10% more than your previous week.

  • :Tok great thanks :)

buy interval training i meant going fast then slower etc, i hope i used the right words!:)

I'll report back tomorrow how my morning run goes, and on non running days i'll walk at lunch time. I've been using www.mapmyrun.com to work out my routes, its really good :)
