Good luck to anyone racing today!

Hard to believe that this time last year I did the Norwich half marathon.......where has the time gone!?

Today, I did another 3 miles +.....nice and quiet running around the lake - there was even a lack of runners for me to feel inadequate by, because they were all doing the half marathon.....so I quite enjoyed it, although I still found it very hard work.

So, all in, I have got out there three times this week - not far, certainly not fast, and definitely not pretty......but three times 3 miles (ish) is a reasonable re-start, and I will be pleased enough with that for now.

    Sat28/11 10K 52:08 (8:25/mile) (Pulse 78)
    Sun29/11 Thirsk 10.0 Miles 1:03:11 (6:19/mile) [74.31%]

I'm going to wait for the official results before posting a time for this morning because there were a few of us left a little confused with the times/distance.

    Mile 1: 5:52 (5:52)
    Mile 2: 6:07 (11:59)
    Mile 3: 6:05 (18:04)
    Mile 4: 6:11 (24:15)
    Mile 5: 6:11 (30:26)
    Mile 6: 6:05 (36:31)
    Mile 7: 6:09 (42:40)
    Mile 8: 6:07 (48:47)

So, averaging 6:08/mile which is on schedule for 1:01:20 .....I was feeling strong at this stage and pushed on for the last 2 miles, only to find that the last 2 miles were:

    Mile 9 : 8:03 (56:50)
    Mile 10: 6:12 (1:03:02)

So the 9th mile sticks out like a sore thumb as being about 2 minutes too long. Havent had chance to map it yet, but it felt a good deal better than a 1:03 so I'm hoping to find it was about 10.25 - 10.3, otherwise I'll be very disappointed with that.

Interesting escapades trying to get out of Thirsk racecourse considering the car park was grass and there had been rather a lot of rain. Along with several others we had to be towed out by a 4x4!

Well done, Hypno, on getting that routine started again.:D

I wonder how Bj had got on at Beddington?

that's not good if a mile is THAT far out! I have done races where I am sure the markers are a little wrong, but 2 mins is a huge amount of difference.

  • Time for a HUGE congratulations to Bj - her time for the Beddington 10K this morning was 1:04:37.

This compares to 1:09:38 in the 10K at Athens and gives a WAVA of 49.92%, the best 10K WAVA to date.:T

  • hi guys - haven't read all your sunday endeavours, will catch up this evening. Just to say, did the 10K, in about 1:03:42, but I'm waiting for official time, not sure where they're going to post them though?! Can't find a website. Maybe an e-mail.

Finished, stood for a minute to get my goody bag of rubbish, tried to walk to the car and my knee totally went on me - wow, pain worse than having babies! right through the back of my knee, funny could stand straight on it OK, but couldn't walk at all.

Funny thing is, soaked in a hot bath - voila - fine! (well, bit achey) - it must have been the cold compounded it.

More annoying, a whole bunch of people cut off a huge circuit at the end of the 4th lap, so they cheated and will come in way ahead of me - only cheating themselves really, but annoying. Oh, and also, we all reckon that the course is only 9.52km - not 10km. 5 people clocked this on gps watches, so they can't all be wrong. REally annoying when you want to time yourself on 10k. So we paid £10 for a mis-measured course!

Bj - I dont know whether this is the same course (it looks likely), but this is the course measurement certificate:
    http://www.coursemeasurement.org.uk/detail.php?no=2002029

There are strict rules re measuring and it is done manually using a measuring wheel. Just out of interest this course was actually measured by Hugh Jones, the London Marathon winner - a man who certainly knows the difference between 10K and 9.52K :D.

If I were to hazard a guess I would say the Garmins have misrecorded, the fact that several gave the same reading only shows that they were using the same GPS points, but these are notoriously unreliable in Greater London.

So you may well have run a full 10K!:D:D

Today I remembered why I love running so much. It was blowing a gale, pouring with rain and it felt great - one to remember on the tough days :D:D

Thanks for the tip about the socks Rich - an excellent idea. Sorry to hear about the problems with the race (you too bj) it's very frustrating that both courses appear to have been mis-measured.

Well done on the runs Becky and Hypno - how were the trails chick?

  • hey Steve, thanks for that, it's a different Beddington Road route, the one I did is actually called 'beddington park 10k' And I can't find that on the measurement list. But now you've told me this I'm desperate to find out! Apparently it was changed from a 3 lap route to 4 lap different route, to be mostly on the path.

I can't believe I'm so obsessed to know I definitely did 10K! How those guys could bear to cheat is beyond me.

Oh and yes, thank you so much for the sock idea!
