If memory serves, you insert the game, select it in My Xbox, press the Y button (for game details), and then select install to HDD.0 -
No game requires an update to work. Some games require updates in order to play them on Xbox Live. But a banned console cannot access the internet anyway, so there would be no need for the update in order to play online.donnajunkie wrote: »one question that someone might need an answer to is can banned consoles still do firmware and software updates? some games wont work until an update has been downloaded. i wonder how people who dont have the internet manage.
The only games that require internet access to be able to play offline are PC games that require registration via Steam. Pushing obvious exceptions aside (i.e. online only games such as Final Fantasy XI), all Xbox 360 games are fully playable offline straight out of the box.
As stated, the last sentence is wrong. Games often require updates to play on Xbox Live, but not offline. The game took you back to the main menu because it logged you out of Live. If you had tried to play the game again straight away without being connected to the internet you would have had no problems.donnajunkie wrote:once i selected no to an update and it just took me straight back to the main system menu. i could be wrong but i am fairly sure the message on screen usually says this game requires an update to work."MIND IF I USE YOUR PHONE? Don't use a chipped one as it won't connect to xbox live and it will void the console if it needs fixing.
I chose the xbox not just for due to price and ones made after Aug 2008 have the new chip to stop the 3 red lights coming on.
Xbox is great for playing with friends and doing other stuff. The new update has Facebook, Zune and Last.fm and Twitter. The user interace is better that Playstation and i think the £35 per year is well worth it for xbox live.
I imagine the same goes for PS nut you get parental controls where you can decide how long children play on there per day and what content they download.
With downloads there is no charge for demos and if you put the game on the hardrive you won't hear it but my one is fine even without the game loaded on the hardrive.0 -

What a load of rubbish!
1) The x-box 360 is not chipped its a firmware change.
2) You can still conect to X-box live.
If you are caught playing copied games you can be banned but there is nothing to stop you connecting a "Flashed" x-box 360.
The new ones still suffer from the red ring of death they have just upped the waranty to 3 years to stop people complaining.Debts as of 01/june/08

the thing is though the gamertag i use to play online is different to the one i play offline with. the offline gamertag isnt even registered with xbox live. sometimes when i get a new game and i am logged into my offline gamertag and the console is not even connected to the net i still get a message saying an update is needed to play this game. i get this issue with the ps3 as well. when i got mw2 on the ps3 it told me i first had to update the firmware from version 3.00 to version 3.01. after i did that i then had to update the software to version 1.01.0 -

I mentioned both of those things. But for a family not wanting to use Xbox Live and with cash constraints it may be worth it to get hold of a far cheaper, but still fairly new, second hand banned console.nsabournemouth wrote: »Don't use a chipped one as it won't connect to xbox live and it will void the console if it needs fixing.
You read that this is for a seven year old child, right? He won't be using any of that.nsabournemouth wrote:Xbox is great for playing with friends and doing other stuff. The new update has Facebook, Zune and Last.fm and Twitter.
The user interface is a matter of preference. Personally I far prefer the PSN interface to the new Xbox Live interface, though I preferred the old Xbox Live interface overall. No argument on Xbox Live being worth the money- I think it is. But the OP's son won't be going online anyway, so arguments on which online is better are moot.nsabournemouth wrote:The user interace is better that Playstation and i think the £35 per year is well worth it for xbox live.
Wrong. So very wrong. As of a few weeks ago consoles consoles are instantly banned from Xbox Live whether they are playing copied games or not.bobby-boy wrote:What a load of rubbish!

I can only repeat what I've said before. You do not need to download updates to play the game offline. Only to play it online. The firmware update you referred to is required to connect to the PSN. But if you rejected that you would simply be logged out of the PSN. It would be ludicrous to sell offline games on a console that require people to download updates from online before they can play it.donnajunkie wrote:the thing is though the gamertag i use to play online is different to the one i play offline with. the offline gamertag isnt even registered with xbox live. sometimes when i get a new game and i am logged into my offline gamertag and the console is not even connected to the net i still get a message saying an update is needed to play this game. i get this issue with the ps3 as well. when i got mw2 on the ps3 it told me i first had to update the firmware from version 3.00 to version 3.01. after i did that i then had to update the software to version 1.01."MIND IF I USE YOUR PHONE?
