Perhaps, but if they want to pay twice as much for all their movies, they can get a job and buy them themselves. :p[/nQUOTE]

hee hee - I agree, until he starts contributing to the family economy he'll have to go without!

Just had a nosey at the argos website - Xbox 360 with wireless controller and game (Sonic I think so he should like) for £136. Then if you buy another £18 game and the accessories pack (£30) you save £30, so effectively accessory pack free. Does that sound like good deal? I would be able to pay with vouchers to value of £90 so approx £60 to pay - plus Argos giving £20 vouchers back when you spend over £100. What do you reckon?

lol. actually they arent that expensive. the majority are less than £20 in supermarkets.
  • if you buy second hand you dont know what you are getting. you dont know how long they have had it for or how well they have looked after it. there is also the red ring of death problem that would obviously be a bigger risk of happening if you got a second hand 360. even with ps3 they have had problems with the yellow light of death. at the moment though that seems to be only the 60gb versions. you also dont get that good a deal with seocnd hand consoles. for example a new ps3 is £250 and depending were you go you may get some games included. recently on this forum someone bought a second hand ps3 with no games for £165. if you add the price of a couple of games then it comes to pretty much the same as a new one that may have games included.

    Some useful stuff there, thanks.

I have heard about this red ring of death on the older 360s. Sounds like the OP is planning to buy new from Argos anyway, so no problem.

If you've got the vouchers for Argos then that sounds like the one to go for. I know that Microsoft and Sony have been in a price war recently so it could be a good time to buy.
  • I've reserved one to pick up tomorrow - gulp, that's actually spur of the moment stuff for me, I usually ponder this kind of stuff for so long the next generation (look at me, getting down with the gamers) has come out before I decide. I had heard about the 'ring of fire' (on Chris Moyles breakfast show) - obviously I hadn't a clue as to what they were talking about!! Anyways, thanks everyone for all your contributions - I shall no doubt have a very happy little boy Xmas morning! Now I'm off to the website you recommended to check ouit games reviews - cheers everyone! xx

LoL, Moyles certainly loves his XBox but he can afford to buy another one if his gets the red ring of death. I don't think it's termed the 'ring of fire' unless you've been listening to Johnny Cash or eating too much curry.:rotfl:
  • The xbox 360 is by far better

It has been proven to be better. Yes the PS3 can handle better graphics but no one can do that yet... and most games are made for the xbox first and then transferred over to the PS3 so the graphics are either the same or they are worse... Proven with screenshots set side by side. The 360 wins more often than not even though it should be worse in that area.

PS3 also has a blue ray player - I wouldnt get an Xbox personally because they are probably the most unreliable of the 3.
Gamestation are doing some good deals at the moment on used PS3's so maybe worth having a look and checking out what warranty you get with them (in store).
The new slim PS3's I would wait and see what the reliability is like.
I have an older PS2 - larger with the fans and it is alot more reliable than the newer slim PS2 that my nephew has, or my girlfriends daughter. These newer PS2's wont even play some of the games that mine will.
(mainly Rock Band and Rock Band 2 - Which being a rock band drum addict I can't do without)

yeah, but the 360 sounds like a hoover when you have a game on and the red light problem seems to be very common. so there is more to consider when deciding which is best.
i have both by the way.

ps can we be sure these people who do side by side comparisons arent biased? are the comparisons done on exactly the same model of tv with the settings on the tv and consoles the same.
